Had left lung segmentectomy: One of the lymph nodes cancerous

hi @cynthia19591965 - I'm glad your surgery went well. has anyone told you what biomarkers your tumor had? based on that info, I expect your oncologist will recommend further treatment (chemo or targeted therapy if there is a match).

In agreement with what Mamajite said. Because it was in that lymph node they will want to do some sort of systemic treatment. They will want to babe as certain as possible that no single cells managed to get away.

I had a right lower lobectomy and they found one cancerous lymph node. It was the one next to the tumor. They upped my stage to IIb due to the lymph node. I then had four months of chemo, once per month. I didn’t need a port. It wasn’t that bad. The few scans I’ve had since have been ok. I have a small nodule in my left upper lobe now that has grown slightly since 2024, but the pet scan was good. I’m getting scans every 3- 6 months.

Did ypu losr any of your hair after 4 chemo tretments. Goid that your scans are niw ckear. Going in hospital soon for wedge biopsy and possible lobectomy. Worried about possible chemo afterwards. Did you feel ver sick after Chemo. Thanks and continue with your good luck.

@bogy, I had an upper right lobectomy in 2018, followed by 33 rounds of radiation, and four rounds of chemo because my cancer had spread to a nearby lymph node. My chemotherapy drugs were Carboplatin and Pemetrexed because I have the EGFR Exon 19 mutation. I did not have any hair loss and I never felt sick, just tired for a few days afterward.

Not all chemos are the same nor do they have the same side effects. There's not enough information in your post to know what chemo treatment you'll be getting, but I wouldn't worry if I were you. These treatments have come a long way. Best of luck to you.

Thanks so much. 33 rounds is a lot. Will let you know more after my surgery but its hood to know that chemo is not to bad. At this time i lniw very little other than biopsy and possibke lower righ lobectomy. Will get back to you. Gpi g aug 5th and i an getti g really worrief. Is the paon bearable. @bogy, I had to do the radiation because there was still some cancer left on the edge after they did the lobectomy. You may not have that need at all. Over all the pain is bearable except when you're coughing. The nurse told me to just squeeze a pillow against my chest as hard as I could and know that it would be over soon. She was right. It hurts at the moment but then the pain goes away as fast as it comes on.

After the surgery I think I was more stiff than sore. It hurt to reach with my right arm. my surgeon gave me stretching exercises to help with the recovery but in hindsight I started them too soon and did too many of them too fast. It IS major surgery And we need to give our bodies time to heal first, then slowly start the stretching exercises. I thought the most helpful things were to walk and to use the spirometer they'll give you to help you breathe deeply again.

I'm not a woman but my wife assures me that childbirth is much more painful. Do let us know how it goes for you and I'll have you in my thoughts on the 5th.

Thanks for asking. I will find out on 8/21 what the bio markers are and what oncology says.
