Brinsupri skin side effects

When you had brinsupri skin side effects what did you do? What was the decision about brinsupri? How did you know it was from brinsupri?

Due to life long sun exposure and fair skin, I am prone to developing AKs (pre-cancer spots), SCC (squamous) and BCC (basal). I had all 3 prior to starting brinsupri, and one after being on brinsupri for 6 months. Each time I get a skin check the dermatologist sprays/freezes at least 20 different spots on my body it seems. There's one spot that has been recalcitrant so at times I've been rechecked every 6 weeks. Fortunately, they are slow growing so I keep an eye on suspicious areas and use FU5 cream at home. If you can have them checked/frozen before they advance is key.

Brinsupri is not a miracle but has helped enough that I do not want to discontinue it. The frequent skin checks are the trade off.

I do wonder if the spots are accelerated by Brinsupri. It’s difficult to know if it’s aging skin and immune system vs Brinsupri.

I’ve not heard of chemo shots, is that something new?

@scoop I really think the Brinsupri helped accelerate the skin cancer. I also have a rash on the bottom of both legs which I know happened after starting Brinsupri. Chemo shots are injected into the squamous site after the biopsy comes back positive because legs are the hardest to heal and my Mohs doctor prefers to try this treatment first. It has worked for me before on legs and sometimes it takes multiple injections before it is gone. The shots are not an option for melanoma (which I have never had thank goodness). I wish the shots could be done on my hands but that was not an option so I am all stitched up right now.

I began 25mg Brinsupri in Nov 2025. Began to experience skin lesions on one leg in Mar 2026. Pulmonist had me stop Brinsupri and allow the lesions to heal. The worst and largest of the lesions is still healing. I had a recheck with my Pulmonist on 23 July. He checked the lesions and checked mu lungs which were clear. I am using a Nebulizer with Albuterol Sulfate and Acetylcysteine. On 24 July, a red spot appeared in the same area of the initial skin lessons. The red spot has the same initial appearance as the first leisions. I am contacting my Pulmonist this AM regarding the new red spot.

@scgroeschel If I were to see my Pulmonologist for skin issues he would without a doubt send me to a Dermatologist since that is their expertise and I would not want anything to be missed. If you don't have one ask him to recommend one.

@scgroeschel If I were to see my Pulmonologist for skin issues he would without a doubt send me to a Dermatologist since that is their expertise and I would not want anything to be missed. If you don't have one ask him to recommend one.

Did you have the skin cancer before, or did the Brinsupri cause it? I maybe missed that in your earlier coversation.

@mokie I have had skin cancer before but never this many at one time until I started Brinsupri. I am still taking the medication and hoping this will subside somewhat. If not, I’ll probably have to get off of it which I really don’t want do.

@mokie I have had skin cancer before but never this many at one time until I started Brinsupri. I am still taking the medication and hoping this will subside somewhat. If not, I’ll probably have to get off of it which I really don’t want do.

@tconz If you decide to go off the 25 mg, I hope you consider taking the 10 mg. In the Aspen study, the 10 mg did not increase the risk of skin cancer in comparison to the placebo group. Incidence of skin cancer for 10 mg and 25 mg was 0.5% and 1.9%, respectively, compared to 1.1% in placebo group. I may switch to 10 mg in a year, depending on how my CT and PFT looks next April, and if my side effects stay at a minimum.

@kathyjjb I would definitely consider the lower dose because I really would like to stay on Brinsupri for a while. I do know that I would not want to go through this many skin cancers every month because the last two surgeries have been very painful.

I so understand! I've only had 1 actinic keratosis lesion. The itchy skin is so far tolerable, but I want to stay on the 25 mg as long as possible-at least 18 months in all, to see if my lungs improve. My Pulm Dr says it takes at least a year to see lung improvement-if seen at all. Good luck!

@rstel7272 Yes I was but I have been off for over a year now. I had skin issues with Voriconazole as well but continued to finish the 6 months. I got some skin cancer with Voriconazle but nothing like the Brinsupri.
