Any hopeful stage 4 storries
My husband was diagnosed in June. His P.S.A was 4.6. His gleason 3+4. So we thought his disease would be localized. But Pet Scan showed bone spread. We are terrified. Any encouraging word would be appreciated

@madisonman0326 "A urology nurse advised my wife to start shopping for funeral homes - she even had a list of ones she recommended - and she said I should apply for a spot in hospice care."
That is so stupid & irresponsible as to be almost comical. Almost like a car salesman telling you that you needed to replace your otherwise good car because it needed a major repair.

5 Reactions@adoptedtomato Yes. Many of us here (including me) are 4B, and going strong. The stats are outdated.

2 Reactions@readandlearn My wife asked me if I remember the nurse’s name so she could report her but I am a county boy who isn’t comfortable making trouble. But, yes, she acted inappropriately.

3 Reactions@northoftheborder Agreed--the statistics are quite outdated. My husband was diagnosed in 2005 and has been stage 4B since at least 2011 and is still with us.

6 Reactions@lag 15 years living with stage 4B and going strong? That's very encouraging to hear as I approach my 5-year cancer-versary in October.

It's not making trouble; it's education & training. I would think that very few nurses want to be cruel or insensitive. By reporting her in a kind manner & suggesting training, you would not only be helping her but also other patients in the future.

3 ReactionsJust an update:
We saw my husband's Urologist on Weds. He prescribed Casodex and He will have his first Lupron shot on Thursday, August 6th. He is feeling quite down about the possible side effects. But we are glad to be moving forward. The Urologist did not order radiation for the small bone Mets because my husband has no pan from them. Hoping that was the right decision.
Thank you all for your comments. So helpful
@christinadiersen50 It's natural to be concerned about the side-effects, but you do get used to them in time and just get on with your life (I've been on hormone therapy for nearly 5 years).

I've been stage 4 since November 2016. Had removal, radiation twice, eligard (still on it for 10 years), Zytega w/prednisone and keytruda in 2023. My PSA just moved from >0.05 to .05. Getting another PSA in mid August to see if it is really going up or if the increase is an anomaly. Just finished 30 Hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatments for radiation cystitis and enteritis. Anyway, I'm 80 and my wife intends to squeeze another 20 years out of me.
I've always believed:
Never say "I'm fighting cancer ". In a fight there's a winner and a loser. That gives you 50% odds. Say "I'm living with cancer" . Your odds of living longer are much higher.
