Extreme neck pain when walking
Extreme neck pain when walking. Does not hurt when sitting or sleeping. The only time the neck hurts when sitting is if I sit on a bench, stool, chair, etc. that does not have a back support. If I push the bottom of my chin back with my fingers when walking the neck does not hurt. The pain is affecting my daily activities such as walking for exercise, playing with the grandchildren, doing household chores, etc. I have been to multiple orthopedics, physical therapy and chiropractors. I get temporary relief but only for a short time. Any advice?

Have you had your neck xrayed? You may have a pinched nerve or cervical inflammation. I suggest you see a pain management specialist. An injection of cortisone in the area of the cervical spine that is causing your pain may be recommended.
I also recommend neck strengthening exercises. If your neck is weak, that may be causing you to pinch the nerve or cervical disk. Stronger neck muscles should help you keep your head better aligned so pushing your head back won't be necessary to alleviate your pain.
I've been through this so I truly know how painful this is. You could try lidoderm patches to relieve the pain but strengthening my neck is what resolved my problem. My neck still bothers me if I repeatedly turn my head to the left so I am pretty sure there is a bone spur or bulging disk that is pinching something.
Good luck.

@degarden_girl Thanks so much for the information. Yes, I am seeing a functional physical therapist and we are working on strengthening the neck muscles. I have exercises to do for my neck to help strengthen the neck muscles.
@lkcarroll yes, what degardengirl said. when you get older your muscles get weak. When you hold your head in perfect posture position no pain. Otherwise, there can be a ton of pain. Try also an MFR therapist. They can really move your head to sit properly on your neck bones. You should have had an mri and xray at the Orthopedic surgeon to make sure there is no growths, arthritis, degeneration, etc.
@lkcarroll I wish you good luck with strengthening those muscles. Mine got weak as I pitched my head forward to work on a computer or read the newspaper as it sat on the counter. Or maybe I pitched it forward because the muscles were already weak.
