Least expensive supplement for Osteoporosis?

Posted by cheeto @cheeto, Jul 26 1:24pm

Diagnosed with osteoporosis in hip, prescribed Fosamax. Do not want to take it, my mom got worse taking it and had jaw pain, upset stomach and other adverse effects. Would like a natural supplement. Please any help appreciated. Thank you

Do the research take it to your doctor . Many doctors are simply not up to date on the latest research and findings. We all have a responsibility to advocate for ourselves.

Every day I take a women’s +50 multivitamin, a vitamin K-2 (MK-7) and a milk protein supplement called MBP Bone Renew. I take an algae based calcium if I don’t feel I got enough calcium in my diet that day. Also add fortibone powder to my coffee.

@cheeto yeah I think that’s the problem. My doctor wants to keep pushing prolia or reclast and I can’t take them and the enivity can cause blood clots strokes, and heart attack

@vmcgrantham
I had 2 opinions. I chose to do weights and supplements, which is difficult to keep up with. So many that may and may not benefit me. I just can’t do the medicine at this time sooo fearful of the consequences.
Thank you for your post

@vmcgrantham I started HRT at age 66. My doctors specialize in caring for people 65+ yo so they are more up-to-date on osteoporosis treatments and were very supportive of HRT. You might need a new "they".

@vmcgrantham I did have my dr appointment and I was pleasantly surprised. She herself is looking into more natural ways to treat osteoporosis. Asian women rarely get it, she told me to add bone broth to my diet lots of leafy greens, stick with D3 with K2, and strength training. She agrees it is frustrating that pills are pushed.

@cheeto I agree with that because I feel that they’re not listening to us and if we have underlying disorders that could cause more problems now they’re saying that HRT can also cause strokes, but I’m not sure if that’s true or not. I’m gonna look into it more, but I gotta decide something cause this is not good enough. and I am finding a new doctor.

@vmcgrantham find another Dr. That is willing to check for underlying conditions. Can you start HRT? Have you or can you start strength training and exercise. Those are key as well as balance and impact training. If you haven't looked into a trainer I would definitely do that. I started with brickhouse bones founded by Dr Lisa Moore on line. She is wonderful I highly suggest you look up her exercises on YouTube

Our local Senior Center offers Arthritis Exercise Classes, Strength Classes, and Balance and Flexibility Classes. Many are free of charge as they are supported by State and Federal grants. I go with a friend and we support each other. I can honestly say I have noticed a difference in my balance and flexibility and definitely feel stronger. I refuse to be that "little old lady" who has difficulty getting the grocery bags out of the cart and into my car!
