Does anyone have experience with Mirtazapine?

Posted by faithshouse @faithshouse, Jun 20, 2019

My husband has trouble staying asleep, and falling back to sleep when he awakens during the night. It concerns him, but we wouldn't say that he is depressed. He had heard about Mirtazapine for sleeping. His doctor prescribed 15 mg. Has anyone had side effects, or depression while taking Mirapine? Is it more for depression, than for sleeping? Thanks for your feedback.

I have stopped taking my mirtazapine because I started having the restless, aching legs. I have been on the meds for about 4 years and off them for 3-4 months now. I have really bad tinnitus and the mirtazapine helped with falling asleep, now that is a new issue I am struggling with. Any advice??

I made a comment a while back about Mirtazapine, I took them for a couple of months and weaned myself off them. In my experience it was the nastiest medication I’ve ever taken, too many side effects like leg and arm cramps, nightmares if and when I could get some sleep, I read a number of good reviews from people who liked this drug, I realize it’s an individual thing. Even had lingering symptoms after stopping them, they made the tinnitus I suffer from go off the charts. If they have helped you for some time but you’re experiencing changes then it’s time to talk to your doctor about trying something new, it’s always an ongoing process to find the right medicine for your health, good luck.

I’ve been on mirtazpine 15 for a year now. Never noticed any side effects. It helps with my appetite, helps with anxiety and sleep. I take one every night before bed

I have been taking mirtazapine for about 3-4 years. Initially to help with appetite and sleep problems, from anxiety. It has worked very well for both problems and helped the anxiety. I take 15mg tablet before bed and the only side effect I had for a few weeks when I started taking it, was feeling a bit out of it the next morning... other than that it was great! And that soon wore off.

I only just started on mirtazapine following the death of my daughter. I don't like the side effects - sleepiness, dizziness, thought of weight gain. Some nights rather than allow me to get a good sleep I'm awake for most of the night. Think I'd be better of using CBT and will check things out with my doctor.

Yes, two weeks ago I started taking Mirtazapine 15mg following a bereavement. I was having trouble sleeping and also thought the anti-depressant might lift my mood. Some nights I slept through and others slept hardly at all. Also feel 'spaced out' and somewhat dizzy during the day. Another side effect is weight gain through an increased appetite, and also puffy ankles and feet. I'm already weaning myself off slowly by cutting each tablet in half and may or may not see if there's another medication that better suits my purpose. Otherwise I'll get through my trauma using cognitive/behavioural therapy. I managed that way with my previous two bereavements and will fall back on that.

I had a horrific experience with Mirtazapine and couldn’t get off it fast enough. Vivid horrible dreams nightly. Didn’t want to go to sleep. Had suicidal thoughts

1 am so glad you asked that question . I was put on it (Mirtazapine) last week. I am sleep deprived and have been going through major medication changes since I had to go off the Vyalev pump temporarily or possibly permanently. my doctor said it would knock me out for 2 days since I hadn't slept for more than 5 hrs in 9 days. I took 1/2 a pill (I am about 115 lbs) I only slept 5 hrs . I took whole 15mg. and didn't sleep at all. After a week my body seems to be adjusting and I am getting more sleep. I was curious if anyone else had similar problems and how to get more restful slept. I am not yet regulated on my Parkinson's meds and see the neurologist tomorrow and will she if see can give me more information to share with all of you. Thank you!

I have been taking a small amount of Mirtazapine for sleep and it works well for me. But then I am retired and have little stress in my life. I will run out soon and don't expect I will need it then.
