@packh1 Even if you can't get a prescription right away, glucometer kits are pretty cheap. For $20-30, you can get a meter, ~100 test strips, lancing device, lancets, etc. (Look on Amazon or Walmart.com.)
Testing 2-3 times a day will give you at least a month of data. Your peace of mind might be worth the cost.
