Doctor prescribed fluvoxamine plus bupropion. Is this normal?

@veranopage- Good morning. When my antidepressant really wasn't doing the job of keeping me from being depressed my PCP added Bupropion and it made all the difference in the world for me. Have you begun to take it yet? It might take some time to feel the affects. Do you feel better?

So you are on both? This is not for me, but rather my friend. She has insomnia, sometimes feels nauseated and lightheaded throughout the day, exhausted and with no energy. How can she work?! I need advice. Drugs dont seem to work.

@veranopage- I'm sorry that medicine doesn't work for you. Btw I never take sleeping meds. Has she been to the doctor? Has she tried therapy? What does your friend do during the day?

My doctor also prescribed fluvaxamine and bupropion 75 together.

My fluvaxamine dosage used to be 200 and I have been reducing it under doctor supervision. And now it's on 50mg.

But I dunno how it has been affecting me. I'm worried but also not brave enough to question my doc...

@ellu I am a 72 year-old widow who has been living with Bipolar Disorder for nearly 50 years, although I was not diagnosed until I was in my 40s. Over the years, I have been on many different medications and combinations of medications. I am currently well on a mix of several medications. It is important to remember two things - firstly, find a doctor you can trust, and follow his/her directions. Do not start messing around with your medications by yourself, be guided by an expert. Secondly, don't expect to feel better immediately after trying a new medication
or combination of medications. Many psychiatric medications can take weeks to take effect, so give your prescribed medications a chance to work before you give up on it or start to fiddle with dosages. And please, please stay off the internet - there are many phonies and weird people out there peddling all sorts of quackery.
If you are unhappy with your current doctor, look around and find someone for a second opinon, but stay guided by the experts. Best of wishes, @ellu

They are both SSRIs. Just be sure and let your doctor know if you experience any weird side effects.

@parisaaxp could only advise research on over prescribing. If life style interventions work instead of too many pharmaceuticals it could be worthwhile. However I am a stickler for best care practices aka evidence based medicine. That means I do what my health care providers say. But we work together on a treatment plan..

Please don’t ever be afraid or reluctant to question your doctor. Always remember that you are paying them for advice and if you feel that your doctor is too busy or feels offended by a question then it is time to find another doctor. It is rare nowadays to find a doctor who asks about your family life, diet and you as a whole person. When you find one, they set a high bar that most doctors can’t meet due to the way our healthcare system is structured in 15 minute increments. I have heard of bupropion also being prescribed with Zoloft and they affectionately refer to it as “Welloft” so it is not an uncommon add-on especially if you are tapering down or off fluvoxamine. If you are having any concerning side effects, you can call your doctors office and ask for a call back from the nurse.

I have taken them for few years I think but just realized this.

It took time and life style changes to feel changes. I think I move on better, get stuck less instead of drowning in negative emotions.

For a while I had stomach refluxes which doc prescribed pantoprazol.
And another time I had heart palpitations which I took propranolol.
Both was temporary though.

It's really hard but I'll try to muster up my courage. Thx
