Anyone experience fatigue along with digestive symptoms?
Not sure if a question I asked a while ago regarding fatigue and digestive issues was posted, so I will try again. I have been experiencing severe fatigue for almost 2 weeks. Thankfully, it is starting to decrease. I had blood tests, EKG, and chest x-ray, and all were normal. I had acid reflux for many months, but by watching diet and taking meds, I now do not experience acid reflux during the day and I am off meds, and I feel it is under control. I use a mattress wedge and head elevation at night for an acid reflux cough with bringing up mucus. That went away for about a month but now has recently recurred. So, I am wondering if all this fatigue is related to digestive issues. Anyone else experience this?

Good Day,
I have similar problems and recently found The Fast Track Diet online. I bought the book and am reading through it. It is science based and sounds like it might work for me. I’m not sure yet but here it is if you would like to investigate it further.

2 ReactionsDo you also have diarrhea?
I was just diagnosed with stenosis of the peripheral celiac artery discovered through a ct scan. Had digestive issues, and have lost ten percent of my weight in a few months. Waiting to see the vascular surgeon.

2 ReactionsYES! Digestive issues can bring fatigue. I discovered this when I realized that I couldn't digest dairy casein. When I stopped pizza, grilled cheese, any dairy (it's everywhere!)(I switched to coconut milk) - - all of a sudden, I could jump outta bed at 6:30 instead of draaaaagging myself up. So my conclusion is that our digestive tract must consume a lot of energy, doing its job. Hope you figure it out; no Doc helped me.

4 ReactionsThank you! I thought about that. I will try eliminating dairy.
Yes, I have been experiencing indigestion for a few weeks & been on Pepcid 2xday. I've felt very fatigued & wondered if this was normal. At 73 y/o and with chronic gastritis, I know it will take me longer than someone younger to get past this episode but it's a bit unnerving. I'm on a mildly bland diet and that seems to be helping a lot, along with the Pepcid pills. But I don't wish to stay on the pills any longer than necessary. Hopefully, being patient awhile longer will help. I hope you feel better soon!

1 ReactionThank you. I never heard it referred to as GI autoimmune illness. That makes sense. Thank you.
@pza: What you're describing is unfortunately not terribly unusual. I myself found out about this connection when I experienced several GI issues over the past year. There can be several contributing factors, not the least of which is known as the "gut-brain axis". Clinically speaking, that means the communication network linking your central nervous system - essentially your brain - to your enteric nervous system - the one in your intestinal tract. When there is an interference or inflation in the latter, it disrupts the former. This can cause the exhaustion you're reporting as it interrupts neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. Fluctuation in levels of cortisol may also occur that increases pain sensitivity.
Additionally, when one experiences GI problems, there can be nutritional deficits - such as decreased iron and/or B12 - that lead to fatigue.
Try to get adequate nightly sleep by elevating the head of the bed with pillows, avoid eating for up to 3 hours before bedtime, and try to sleep on the left side to assist with the positioning for the esophagus to prevent gastric reflux. Perhaps enlist the assistatance of a dietician or nutritional counselor for the best food choices and vitamin/nutritional supplements - and always remember to discuss your ongoing symptoms with your medical practitioner to see if additional testing or a change in medication is warranted.
Please let me know if any of these suggestions help.

Thank you for the explanation. I do elevate my head, eat early in evening. (Usually over 3 hrs before bed), and sleep on left side. Trying to watch nutrition. After 2 weeks of fatigue it is so much better. Wondering if possibly I had light Covid —no fever. An expired Covid test was positive, but a new Covid/flu test was negative. I’m looking at all possibilities.
