Managing Hip Bursitis Pain
I have what has been diagnosed as bursitis in my right hip for almost a year now-steroids will relieve for a brief period of time . I can’t sleep of a night because that is when the pain is the worst. The only non pharmaceutical relief I have gotten is sound wave therapy has anyone had this and tried something that worked. This is now even bothering me when I walk of a day.

@covidstinks2023 Interesting that when I purchased Voltaren is says on the tube, not intended for hips. I had been using and wondered why not that much relief.
@ennaoj44
Thanks for the info. I had a MRI of the hips and pelvis at Mayo in early November of 2025.
FINDINGS: MRI of the pelvis without and with IV gadolinium.
Moderate degenerative arthritis of both hips. Patchy high-grade chondromalacia in the superior joints. Trace underlying subchondral edema in the superior acetabula. Degenerative anterosuperior acetabular labral tears. Slight fibrocystic change at the femoral head/neck junctions. Trace left hip joint effusion.
Mild degenerative arthritis of the sacroiliac joints with a few degenerative subchondral cysts and patchy subcortical bone marrow edema about the superior joints. Unremarkable pubic symphysis. Partially imaged lumbar spondylotic changes with decompression and instrumented fusion.
Approximately 1.1 cm ovoid enchondroma in the left femoral neck (series 4 image 22).
Mild right and moderate left distal gluteus medius and minimus tendinopathy. Mild right and moderate left proximal hamstrings tendinopathy. Surrounding reactive edema and enhancement about the greater trochanters and ischial tuberosities. No iliopsoas bursopathy. Normal distal iliopsoas tendons.
The bilateral piriformis muscles are unremarkable, without fatty infiltration, signal abnormality, or enhancement. Chronic fatty infiltration in the gluteal muscle bellies, most notable in the right radius medius and minimus. Otherwise, muscular signal intensity and bulk is within normal limits.
Colonic diverticulosis. Prostatic hypertrophy. Focal cutaneous thickening, T2 hyperintensity, and enhancement in the left inguinal region (series 3 image 31-32); correlate with physical examination. Probable hepatic and renal cysts, partially seen on localizer images.
IMPRESSION:
1. Moderate degenerative arthritis of both hips.
2. Mild degenerative arthritis of the sacroiliac joints.
3. Mild-moderate distal gluteal and proximal hamstrings tendinopathy, both greater on the left.
4. Normal appearance of the piriformis muscles.
I also have balance issues which may be exaggerated because I take Pregabalin 3X daily.
@loyd1957 Thank You. I was not aware of this. I have been blessed and that I do not have to
use it on my hips...mostly my spine and shoulders.
Blessings & Prayers....
