Any tips to manage excessive phlegm from throat cancer radiation?

@gareee314 I mean autopsy. That’s the last way a doctor wants to find out what is wrong with the patient. In other words, don’t wait until I die to find out what was wrong with me.

@hrhwilliam I don't want an autopsy while I'm alive..That's usually done while you are dead.

To manage the mucus I carried spit bags with me. I spit it out. You can buy them from Amazon, or get from your doctor.
My doctor also suggested Mucinex. But I haven't tried that yet. The mucus is part of recovery. It will continue for a long time.

Had surgery 1990 radiation etc. now 30 yrs later I cannot swallow anything even water muscles in mouth have atrophied won’t work phlegm is still horrible have to go in my mouth with washcloth and dig it out suction won’t work it’s deep down by my vocal cords. Tried every phlegm thinner drs recommend nothing works have to go clean throat about 3 times an hour. I’m 81. Guess I lived longer than they expected.

My husband is struggling so with the very excess phlegm problem, he is trying to eat a little something to help his feed tube to Go Away, but all the phlegm just gets in the way! He's pretty much on his last nerve and I can't seem to help, although I do and will keep on looking !!! @gareee314 Yes! When my surgeons would enter the exam room for follow-up visits and ask how I was doing, expecting to hear a ‘Minnesota Nice’ reply like, fine, they didn’t know what to say when I replied, “I’m not dead yet.”

This is not the most conventional, but my buddy uses 1/2 shot of whiskey. I personally do the humidifier, salt water washes and lots of water and Gatorade all day do help. Strawberry duo suckers make my mouth water instantly. Try some hard candies with a little zing. I do not recythose if you currently have mucositis though. Whiskey burns the snot out of my mouth but my friend swears by it.

@jennifish Whiskey does cure a lot of issues, or at least it makes you forget you have issues. It also dehydrates you a bit, which is not what you need for dry mouth although it might be the ticket for excessive phlegm.
Logic would point to phlegm reduction because the body is more relaxed with the alcohol, thus not fighting a presumed invasion of the throat which in turn lowers phlegm levels.
Just a theory. Perhaps I should have a whiskey and think it over however since my cancer, it is far too painful for me to swallow strong alcohol. Alcohol is also known to feed cancer cells. I think I will wait until my final days. Then I will enjoy some Jack and maybe a pack or two of Marlboro’s.
