Dry needling and acupuncture helped lots for spine muscle cramps, ache
I have had both done for spine issues. I would highly recommend either of them. I only felt small prick from needle, it only took a few minutes. I closed my eyes and meditated like I was at a spa. So much better afterwards. PTs said if I have muscle cramps or aching again in back to come back. I told them I would.

I had success with dry needling. I have spinal stenosis and it seems the muscles in my upper back (neck) area were very very tight. Dry needling helped relax those muscles. Same here - insurance would not cover it but it was worth it for neck relief.

Per my MRI, I have Severe bilateral foraminal stenosis at C6–C7. As a result after years of over protecting my neck via my Trapezius muscles, these muscles had become quite tight (hard actually). The dry needling of these muscles, (needles similar to acupuncture needles that are inserted into the muscle and then gently moved up and down in the muscle) performed by a licensed physical therapist, helped 'release' the tight tension in the muscles. It greatly relieved my neck and upper shoulder pain and helped make sleeping more comfortable. It didn't heal the stenosis. I also had two cortisone injections in my C6 and C7 vertebrae. That also provided relief and eliminated the numb thumbs and fingers and pain down the backs of my arms. My Spine doctor recommended the dry needling AFTER I had the two injections. It was all helpful.

@spatase Thank you for your explanation, and I’m happy you got relief from the injections and dry needling. After reading what it is I don’t believe it’s something that will help me with my pain, but it certainly is an interesting concept.😊
@spatase hello, I’ve been dealing with severe spasticity in my neck, neck spasms are unbearable and start choking me, also extending into my head. It is absolutely unbearable. No muscle relaxer has helped but neurosurgeon did mention dry needling . I’d be interested in trying it. Suggestions anyone.
@blueyes 74 - I was skeptical - so I researched it a lot before I had it done. Just ask Microsoft Co-Pilot or Chat GPT - they both give a description based on information from established medical organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Harvard Medical school. Then make sure you find a licensed physical therapy specialist who has already done it many times. I will admit it did hurt a little but the relief was worth it.
Insurance would not pay for it but it cost me $45.00 and I had it done 3 times a week apart.

2 Reactions@spatase so glade that u found relief from the dry needeling ive had that & acqpunctuer for cramps their well worth it . I have trouble wirh certain pain meds so this a goos alternative and no side effects.
