My insurance won’t cover Levabuterol so far

@sarahlynn1960 Appeal! Medicare has an appeal process, and in my experience with lung medications, it has been 100% successful.

I had the same experience when I went on Medicare initially - I had been using levalbuterol in both nebulizer and inhaler for years, but they denied the initial prescriptions. Appealed and it was reversed.

The same thing happened a few years later when my insurer changed Pharmacy Benefit Plan Managers (PMB). Appealed and it was reversed.

On a third occasion, when levalbuterol was no longer enough, the doctor prescribed (generic) Symbicort - the PMB denied it. Appealed and it was reversed.

Especially with switching from albuterol to levalbuterol, these denials are ridiculous, because there is minimal additional expense.

Be sure the doctor prescribes the generic levalbuterol specifically, and not the far more expensive brand-name Xopenex.

Have you tried an appeal? You have 90 days, I believe.

I have Medicare and another insurance. I believe Medicare pay for my Levalbuterol. I get 100 vials for $18.00 at CVS pharmacy.

My insurance wouldn't pay for Albuterol with the diagnosis of bronchiectasis and MAC. When my pulmonologist added COPD, it was then covered.
