I don’t know how to find the right doctor to help me. I’ve had Fibro diagnosed by a nurse practitioner 4 years ago. She is treating me for something else and does not treat Fibro. I have increasing pain in my legs and hips. It is debilitating. Do I look for a rheumatologist, a neurologist or someone else. I should say that my fatigue is terrible and I am trying to live my life but the pain and fatigue are stopping me. Help! I need a doctor to help me with meds and coping.

@gloriaadieu that’s very strange.

When you call for an appointment, do you tell them you have fibromyalgia?
Do they give you an appointment, diagnosis fibromyalgia, and then turn you away?

I wonder why.

New Mexico standard procedure say that Rheumatologists have turned Fibro care over to the PC's. Possibly because of lack of physicians in NM.

I had a rheumatolgist diagnose me then she moved during covid. I can't find another that manages Fibro. They only want to prescribe Gabapentin and move on. I work hand in hand with my PC. I've done much of the foot work finding different things to try. I've ended up on Meloxicam for inflammation, Low Dose Naltroxene (LDN) for Fibro pain, and have been on hormone therapy for years. Not sure of your age but that makes a big difference. And check your thyroid.
Nobody wants to manage Fibro. You're doing the right thing by reaching out and seeing what others are doing. Oh, I do still get tired now and again BUT think much of the fatigue we go through has alot to do with pain. It's a heavy load.

@feygirrl What an excellent idea. I'll have to research my area to see if they have that available. I always do research on my own doctors...where they went to school, what and how many hospitals they have credentials for, but it's always good to have at least a starting point for a reference.

I have fibromyalgia since 1989. I just this month went to a rheumatologist. They are the specialists to see. I gave up on treatment for a long time. I am 79. My pain is like I am bruised all over. Check around, ask questions about different rheumatologist. Get one you are sure about. I just started, so he framed a lot of blood for testing. Hope to get some answers in 2 weeks or so.

You are so right, it is real for sure! I have been diagnosed for 20 years!

The only bad thing I have found since I have a few other conditions as well is that a lot of doctors act like it is not real! You may have to look around to find a good one who does believe it is real! I have a syndrome of things that it affects! Good Luck to you!
