You pose a great question. The LDL (“bad cholesterol”) goal that’s right for one person isn’t always the same for someone else. It often depends on things like whether you’ve had heart disease, diabetes, or other risk factors. Your healthcare team can help determine the target that’s appropriate for you.
Since you’ve had pain with statins, has your healthcare provider confirmed that the statin was the cause, or have you been able to try a different statin, a lower dose, or another cholesterol-lowering medication? There are several non-statin options available today that may be appropriate for some people.
I’m also curious. Are you hoping to lower your LDL through diet alone if possible, or are you looking for alternatives to statins because of the side effects?
