Discouraged by Prolia & Alendronate side effects
I don’t like to complain with so many people finding benefits from these meds but I have been trying to go with the flow and not having good effects. I developed a severe skin rash after Prolia and switched to Alendronate now it’s my 7th week. I get very lose stools d bad stomach h aches and feel lousy . It seems to get worse each week ( I take a weekly dose ) snd follow all the directions. I want to go off and take my chances to see what will happen. I k ow this isn’t advisable but at this point idk!!

Yes, talk to her and do your own research too. Go in prepared with what you are learning and don't be afraid to ask "why this drug. What is the long-term plan for treatment. "
Had bad side effects from Prolia, severe fatigue, worse sinus congestion including watery eyes, worsre anxiety, some itchiness. Was hopeful but did not work as I am sensitive to meds where I uaually take half dose which is ok with mt dr. I was told by Dr to not take another shot but increase Vit D and calcim.

1 ReactionWas on Prolia for about 4 1/2 years; switched to Alendronate due to Prolia side effects. Have been taking Alendronate for about 6 months. I believe it is causing hair loss plus I don't like the realization that this medication stays in my body for "years". Has anyone found natural supplements that help? (aside from Vitamins D, K, and calcium - which I'm taking). Strontium was not recommended by one doctor I talked with. I'm also trying to do bone-building exercises. Would like some advice since I'm aware of Prolia rebound but just do not want to continue medication for the long term if I can help it.
@mbrighton
Have you taken an anabolic medication yet? Those would be Tymlos, forteo or Evenity. Or were you started on bone meds with a bisphosphonate?
Is the alendronate enough to stop Prolia rebound?
@gravity3
I was first put on Risedronate back in 2015 when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. Then Prolia around 2020 because the Risedronate was not improving my scores. The doctor suggested Alendronate to help prevent rebound from Prolia and many things I read and listened to suggested a bisphosphonate after Prolia. I’m not familiar with the meds you mentioned but can consider them, although I wish I could do away with taking meds altogether.

Here is a Mayo article that can be helpful.

@sondrachristo1 I know what you’re saying but I think if I’m going to get fractures the drugs aren’t going to help at 73 years. I’m dead set against them at this point.
@jdh5 that’s what I’m doing. No more meds for me.
