Dx of SIBO as a result of acid reducers from use of prednisone?
Just wondered if any of you with stomachs affected by prednisone use were prescribed acid reducers and as a consequence are diagnosed with Sibo (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). I am experiencing nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, and strange bowel movements. Many tests have ruled out obvious offenders. I’ve been off prednisone since February but continued the pantoprazole for a while along with famotidine and other chewable antacids. Not taking any of them anymore however things haven’t improved.
I just would like my life back!
Kicked PMR with kevzara but now dealing with this.

It’s hard to believe you go to the doctor with serious discomfort and they can’t do a complete evaluation. I expect more from doctors but apparently you have to press them to do every reasonable test for your issue. I’ve learned that I have to educate myself on health matters to advocate for myself.
So sorry you had such a horrible experience and hope you have recovered fully from your illness.
The goal is to stay healthy!
I have eliminated all acid reducers and so far so good.
Hopefully I can get to the bottom of my issue. Glad you fired your gastroenterologist!

I hope doctors can find answers for you as well as you being your own sleuth in your own health.
May you be well.

1 ReactionJust an update….. the ct scan I had revealed stenosis of the peripheral celiac artery, moderate to severe. Have to see a vascular surgeon to see how to address it. Definitely could be a cause for my weight loss, nausea, gas, bad stool, and loss of appetite. Also has potential to cause SIBO. Between that diagnosis and the messed up microbiome from acid reducers I’m convinced I probably have damage to my small intestine. All the while I was treating my stomach issues with ant acids I was feeding the disease and not addressing the issue with the artery. Hopefully my life can recover from this!
