Elbow and knee pain normal x-ray and blood work

Posted by cflood @cflood, 16 hours ago

I have severe elbow and knee pain. Some days I need two hands to lift a coffee. X-rays are normal. CRP, Urate, and rheumatoid factor are all normal.
What can cause this? 65 year old female caucasian.

cflood, x-ray won't reveal soft tissue inflammation in those joints, but it can show loss of space in the joints. So, I'm thinking you have something causing inflammation in the thin layer of cartilage that gives us smooth movement. You could have an MRI to ascertain the inflammation. You could have an autoimmune condition.
And might ask for autoimmune testing. It's possible have seronegative RA. Is it bilateral.

@gently yes it's bilateral. There is no visible swelling at the joints.

cflood, the nice thing about the x-rays is that you don't evidence damage. Whatever is going on you are catching early. https://lucidaclinical.com/blogs/how-is-seronegative-rheumatoid-arthritis-diagnosed/ There are medications that relieve the swelling and pain and prevent permanent damage. The testing for RA can involve ruling out other inflammatory autoimmune conditions. Which could result in identifying one afflicting your joints. If you aren't seeing a rheumatologist, you might request a referral. Keep us posted.
