cflood, x-ray won't reveal soft tissue inflammation in those joints, but it can show loss of space in the joints. So, I'm thinking you have something causing inflammation in the thin layer of cartilage that gives us smooth movement. You could have an MRI to ascertain the inflammation. You could have an autoimmune condition.
And might ask for autoimmune testing. It's possible have seronegative RA. Is it bilateral.

@gently yes it's bilateral. There is no visible swelling at the joints.
