I was prescribed Lexapro for anxiety. Is an occasional drink okay?
I have not started taking my prescription yet. I occasionally drink a few drinks with dinner and occasionally a little more at a party. It seems like a steep price to give that up. I am hesitant to start taking the prescription because of that. What are your personal experiences? Are there any SSRIS that are less worrisome to take with a few drinks here and there? Or any other medication for stress and anxiety ?

I'm sorry if I sounded rude - I'm living this nightmare with my daughter, so it is a very sensitive subject for me..... Wish you the best!

2 ReactionsTry a de-alcoholized beer or cider. Pour it in your favourite glass. Serve chill or on ice. Cheers for Years.
I find in general that some people are quite judgmental when it comes to consuming alcohol. I can tell you my personal experience as a person who drinks more than some people and less than others. I took Lexapro for about 2 years. I also had a few drinks with friends while I was taking it. The result was highly unpredictable, and there were times my family and friends were concerned. I might have a few glasses of wine and be fine or I might appear very intoxicated. Looking back, it was risky. It’s your decision. Don’t let people shame you.

1 Reaction@isalovesmajo From my experience, many of the medications for anxiety and depression have warnings about alcohol use. I am prescribed duloxetine (trade name Cymbalta) and have also taken paroxetine (trade name Paxil). I have had an occasional glass of wine or beer but I discussed this first with my prescribing physician (my primary care provider). I don’t have a history of heart disease, diabetes, or anything else medical that would preclude an occasional glass of wine. Since you have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression it’s your choice how you would like to proceed. However, I suggest you talk with your prescribing physician.
