Having PAE next week, what can I expect the next day?
68 years old, 100cc prostate, very large median lobe. What can I expect the very next day after PAE, or within 24 hours. Travel is about three and a half hours between home and the hospital. The nurse suggested that I stay nearby for the first night. If the first night or next morning is going to possibly be rough I’d rather not stay at a friend’s house and put them through my discomfort.
I’m expecting the “you’ll hate me for two weeks” part of the recovery. I haven’t heard how soon it begins.

Some of these procedures, you need general anesthesia, others just twilight. This often dictates the procedure since some people with health issues may not want to be put deeply under. Every case is different, every body is different. I also hated being in the hospital, alone, overnight, for the Turp procedure but the PAE is only 4 hours total and you are home to be miserable, which is nice.

I am traveling 2 hrs to the site with my wife. I know it can be bad after but my doctor said since I have a catheter going in and leaving it in until 2 weeks after procedure, it won't be terrible.
Should we drive home after where we know where ER is and be in our own home or stay over another night?

My advice would be to stay near the doctor that does the procedure because if something goes awry he will know your case. If you go home and have to be seen, that ER will be starting from scratch on your case.

that sounds good only if he will offer to meet with us in case we go to ER...most doctors say go to the ER let them deal with it. I will ask him
You have to keep in mind that he is an interventional radiologist, not a urologist. So if you ended up needing ER help, I would think that he would know where best to go in his neighborhood….and may be able to help with ER admissions…..
