Body heat, like hot flashes

Posted by mjm1947 @mjm1947, 4 days ago

Does anyone else have sensations daily, several times a day, of being too warm and even hot, as if you are having a hot flash? I also had an anxious, prickly feeling, until my neurologist prescribed pregabalin. I have had this for 2.5 years. It started within two weeks after I had Covid. Every test I have had showed results within a normal range. My body temperature is always below 98.6- around 97.5. It has always been 98.6. It is as if I don't have a thermostat- I get cold, put on a jacket, and within minutes I get too hot. I have not worn a sweater since this began. Oddly, I don't notice it when I am outdoors. After going to several specialists, I take Lyrica and Veozah, which have helped. My doctor at the Vanderbilt COVID clinic in Nashville has recommended taking spore probiotics and magnesium threonate, vitamin D, 30 min. of sunshine a day, and no dairy products, especially ice cream. Hard cheese, in very small amounts, is permitted. I am never comfortable. This feeling is always with me, just in different degrees.

You might check out the Stellate Ganglion Block. It is supposed to reset the autonomic nervous system. It's a very pleasant experience. But you've given so many helpful suggestions. I hope you get as good as you've given.

@mjm1947, Hey There. COVID can do some crazy things to the body. I battled heat surges but not as long as you have.

Have you had a Thyroid panel done? You can alternate between cold and hot with Thyroid Diseases. Just a thought.

Praying for you. Blessings & Prayers...

I have had “hot flash“ like symptoms since I got Long Covid. They pretty much correlate with how bad my other symptoms are. If I overdid it one day, all of my symptoms would be worse, including the hot flashes. I also originally thought that perhaps I was feverish or that these were menopause related hot flashes. But now there’s a clear pattern.

That being said, I have no useful advice to share. Just solidarity.

I too suffer from hot and cold flashes through out the day. They mostly occur when I change positions or each spicy food. I counted 15 in a one day before I gave up counting. Haven't tired any drugs or remedies. I'm hoping time will heal. Yes, being outside seems to help as does warmish weather as in the low 70's. Onset was a few weeks after contracting COVID last fall but I also had surgery and radiation in the months to follow so it's difficult to sort out what is what. I try to ignore it but is does get waring. Good luck. Hope you find other helpful treatments.

Doc told me it is pretty well documented that us long haulers have "body temperature dysregulation". This means we struggle to control our internal thermostat. It is believed that the virus damaged nerves that manage sweat and blood flow....and it is possibly that the neuroinflammation we have contributes to it. Hydration and electrolytes definitely help. Extreme pacing will also help...so do tasks in small steps and rest in between. In my case, I had to increase my HRT as the increased estrogen is helping with inflammation and it will stop me from overheating at night.

I have them, but my body temperature also rises before the hot flash - up to 101 or so. I finally had sweat testing done at Mayo and discovered I no longer sweat over 85%of my body. It's definitely post-Covid thing; unfortunately treatment is entirely symptomatic as there's nothing they can do to make you sweat . . . 😔
