Welcome to Mayo Connect. I hope you find it a great place to hear about others' experiences and ask questions.

Do you care to share where you are in your journey? Have you met with the provider to discuss your options yet?

Hi @updoosie - that does sound frustrating to spend 3 years on and off on GLP-1s and only see 17 pounds lost.

Fellow members @roch @boymom1 @jc76 @hope2lose23 and others may have before and after stories to share with you from their own experience or that of a loved one, or may have some insights from research they've done on bariatric surgery.

Right now, updoosie, what would make you consider not having the surgery?

Welcome to Mayo Connect. I had my surgery 13 years ago and a revision this year. Everyone's situation is different. I never did GLP-1, which was not common back then, but I tried every other diet invented, would lose and regain. I lost weight, but without lifestyle changes, you may regain.

I do have a few suggestions if you are going to pursue. Start by discussing with the primary if they have not already done so. Then pick a clinic that will provide preoperative evaluation and education and provide follow-up care for years after surgery.

Changes in the GI system require monitoring after surgery to ensure you're getting the necessary vitamins and protein. I still do yearly rechecks with my clinic (Mayo).

Hi, all I love reading your posts.
My name is laurie , i live in wisconsin, and i'm sixty six years old..and I am looking at having bariatric surgery. Hopefully, this year. I'm scared to death. Has anybody else had that feeling? I don't know why I feel that way, but to think about it scares me. But I know, I really need this
