Open up rib cage
What are the best ways to open up the diaphragm and rib cage ? I am trying all kinds of breathing exercises and stretches…all suggestions except surgery are welcome !

I must add that whenever our spine is curving forward, our ribs have less room to move and our organs get squeezed…while we can’t always avoid this, our own body-awareness can help us do a self-correct more often than we think…when sitting, if the back is well supported, bringing the pelvis forward can avoid slouching… happier diaphragm….
also, shoulders hunched forward need to come back to open up our chest…better breathing for all !
A PT showed me this passive stretch. Lie supine with a roller underneath the length of your spine. Stretch your arms out to your sides palms up. You'll be stretching all the ligaments and muscles that have gotten more comfortable in the muscled foward position that closes your rib cage. Several times a day, but no more than 10 minutes at a time because they have to stretch gradually.
Most of our activities tighten the pecs. You want to instead stretch them. It takes some thought to develop the opposite lats to open the chest back up. Balancing on the six inch round is an extra benefit, if its a bother the 1/2 round is just as effective.

Dear mentor, I enjoyed your bio. Can I assume you are the one in the middle getting all the attention?
