Low WBC, Neutrophils Low BEFORE Chemo?

Posted by kerryfr @kerryfr, 22 hours ago

My husband is 60, has stage 4 metastatic, hormone sensitive PC (spread to bones), Gleason 10, PSA 500. Three weeks ago his PSA was 159, but a low WBC. With respect to treatment, he's had one treatment of radiation (shoulders), received a shot of Eligard and started Nubeqa 10 days ago. We don't have a recent PSA count, but his WBC continue to slowly fall, and his Neutrophils are 1.13. We need to be in a better range for chemo. Is this something for us to be concerned about? Had anyone experienced this? I'd appreciate any and all advice, thank you!

As you probably know, They want neutrophils To be at least 1.5 to have chemo.

The drugs they having him take should not be a problem.

I am on ADT (like Eligard) and Nubeqa for 3 years and my neutrophils has been 4.5 or higher for years. So the drugs should not be a problem.

Has the cancer that has spread to the bones gotten into his bone marrow? That can cause low neutrophils.

What have the doctor said to you about the cause for this? Does your husband have an autoimmune disease? That can result in the problem of low neutrophils. Is it possible that another drug your husband is taking is causing this problem?

This is really something you have to talk to your doctor about. I’m not sure you can get a lot of information in this forum. Maybe somebody else has had the same problem, however.

@jeffmarc thank you AGAIN! AI confirmed the 1.5. Drag. It was happening before we even started Nubeqa. The cancer has spread to the marrow.
