Nearing end of Evenity treatment

Posted by szark55 @szark55, 1 day ago

End of this month is my last Evenity set of injections. I had bone density last month, Dr messages me and said minor improvements in most areas, but some a little worse. Will discuss at next appt. I know it is recommended for ‘maintenance’ after this, but I’m concerned at what the dr may tell me. I know the past DEXA have shown pretty bad in my hips ( femoral neck- both sides) I think that’s where the problem still is. I already, and have for years, taken supps, and I am fairly active. Will be back in gym soon.
Any suggestions to help improve?

I took Evenity and I believe it’s biggest area of improvement is the spine, which was my experience.

@leslie2121 the spine is where I got a great improvement. Hips still not at osteopenia. Anyone have specific exercises they have used to increase BMD in the hips? I would love my next DEXA to be at osteopenia levels in the hips.

I try to walk 2 miles briskly most days - but while my spine has improved last year from -2.9 to -2.5 - my hips went from -1.5 to -1.9. Still osteopenia but not great.
I wasn’t taking any meds except vit D/K 2, but added weight training and increased frequency of exercise.
So started Tymlos in May as I mentioned before to try to get back into osteopenia.

I had 2 compression fractures 5 years ago skiing. One mild, one moderate- very painful but healed thankfully. I am 67 now and generally healthy except for a benign condition called MGUS, which can contribute to osteoporosis but otherwise asymptomatic and just monitored. Sorry if TMI. 😅

Hi @szark55 - I too had poor scores in the femoral neck -2.9 and took Evenity which improved to -2.6. That's about as much as you can hope for in the femoral neck with any drug in a reasonable amount of time. Since the femoral neck is so tough to improve, I then moved to Prolia. I will likely be on it for 10+ years.

Just had first dose of evenity, and wondered if coughs and trouble swallowing is a symptom?

Hi Michael, i'm curious about your progress on Prolia after Evenity - have you seen further BMD gains? The romosozumab to denosumab sequence is well supported for maximizing BMD gains, and some here are using this approach (1-2 yr Prolia after Evenity). Your experience is interesting to follow.

You mentioned planning to stay on prolia for at least 10yrs - do you and your doctor have a specific exit plan? Have you come across any new strategies for transitioning off long-term Prolia?
