help with Folliculitis

Posted by gebirgsjaqger @gebirgsjaqger, Jun 20, 2025

I have seen 2 Dermatologists who have diagnosed FOLLICULITIS.
They prescribed Clindamycin (liquid) and Ketoconazole shampoo.
Neither has helped very much.
The "pimples" on my scalp are numerous, and my scalp is very itchy.
Has anyone with folliculitis found a better remedy?
Or could my problem be something else?
Any help or suggestions who be greatly appreciated.

We have Skin Health group that might have some suggestions for Folliculitis. Was this the result of radiation or Chemo?

Hello;
My folliculitis did not result from neither radiation nor chemo;
it just developed without any cause.

I am currently dealing with folliculitis as well(2nd time). After I shower, while still wet, my wife applies CeraVe acne foaming cleanser to my back. I leave it on for about a minute and then rinse it off. After I dry off, my wife applies Mupirocin Ointment USP, 2% to my back. It’s gone in 5-7 days. Regarding Clindamycin, my Dermatolgist told me to use that AFTER my condition has cleared up, and is used to prevent it from coming back(I did not use it after my first time, but will this time). I certainly am not an expert, but it seems like you have been given incorrect advice about Clindamycin. Best of luck.

Ask for a bacterial culture. Are you diabetic or immunocompromised?

i have same problem, can't sleep because of itchy crawling sensations on my scalp & back, drs don't believe me, they say it's delusinal , saw 3 derms, 1 said oh it's just your hair moving, another was more interested to get to her daughters game in time, and we have to pay for these opinions.my scalp is full of bumps, tried dozens of products,, anyone else have this?

I have folliculitis for now one year. No one able to diagnose for 10 months. I now have a staph infection in the center of my forehead, growing larger every day. The itching is so strong. I now have chills.

I have Folliculitis also after shingles shot. Now a year with this affliction. No one could figure out what was wrong, mainly PA's. The South loves PA's. Finally saw derm in June. Treated with steroid injections and steroid cream. Now diagnosed with staph infection. Be really careful. Research and be knowledgeable about your condition when meeting with your dr. of choice. Hindsight now for me. Good luck.
