Hi, I was first diagnosed at age 40. I am now age 61.5. My doctor says I'm miraculous and at the far right flat side of the curve. This is both comforting and not because I know I won't always be miraculous. He suggested it's time to explore a bone marrow transplant. Up till now I have lived a normal life for a guy with cancer- get out of bed, go to work, hang with my wife, raised the kids. This is my first time posting. What's up with you? Peace.

Hi @hentzielek135, Welcome to Connect. You’ve been very fortunate in your myelofibrosis journey of 20+ years without it causing major disruptions in your life. But apparently there have been some changes occurring and your doctor is now discussion the possibility of a bone marrow transplant with you.
An allogeneic bone marrow transplant (BMT) with donor stem cells, remains the only potential cure for MF at this time. MF can leave deep, damaging fibrotic scarring in the bone marrow which hampers the development of healthy blood cells. Having this stem cell transplant allows for a regeneration of your bone marrow with inheriting the new immune system via those stem cells.
There are several members in Connect who have had MF and gone through the BMT process. I just “cell”ebrated my 7th rebirthday with my BMT for acute myeloid leukemia. We’re all here sharing our experiences to help others on their BMT journeys.
If you’re just at the beginning stages of planning, have you met with a transplant doctor? Has there been search started to find a donor?
