Anyone have Aliya (PEF) treatment for lung cancer? How did it go?

Posted by kakalena @kakalena, Apr 18 2:04pm

I am scheduled to have the Aliya PEF (pulsed electricc field) image guided ablation on 4/23/26. It has just been approved for non small cell adenocarcinoma of the lungs. I am having it done in conjuction with a biopsy of lung nodules that have doubled in size in 4 months per CT sccan, and light up as probably cancerous from PET scan. I have been dealing with the lung cancer since January 2023 and pancreatic cancer since December 2024. I had the Whipple for the pancreas in December 2025. None of my cancers have been metastases. The biopsy won't have results for at least 7 days, but rather than putting me under twice, they ar going to do the Aliya at the same time. I am 78 years old. I have faith in my doctors, but since this such a new treatment, was wondering if anyone has had the Aliya, how successful it was, and were there any side effects.

@cjacobs99, I saw a post from you mentioning the Aliya procedure. (https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/1160933/) The lung cancer group is interested and excited about this advancement. Did you have the Aliya procedure for your metastasis to the lung, or did you go with more SBRT? How are you doing now?

I am scheduled for the Aliya procedure this coming Thursday, 4/23/26. I had SBRT for pancreatic tumor which shrunk it enough to have the Whipple surgery this past December. I will be having a biopsy of the nodules and lymph node in the mediastinum to determine whether it is lung cancer or a metastases of pancreatic cancer. I have been receiving immunotherapy, Nivolumab, for 3 years for the lung cancer.
They will be doing the Aliya at the same time as the biopsy. I'll post the results. Biopsy results won't be back for 7 days.

Well, I had the Aliya last Thursday along with a biopsy of 2 lung nodules and lung lymph node. They showed up on PET scan as probable cancer., but they didn't know if it was mets from lung or pancreatic cancer. Have not heard results on biopsy yet, another 4-5 days. The results of the Aliya will be determined after 3 months with a CT scan. I'll keep you posted. The Aliya was done on one nodule only, and as an outpatient. I was very tired for a couple of days but seem back to my old self now.

Has anyone had their nodule assessed/ablated with the Aliya system? I'm due to have a bronchoscopy Monday on a 1 cm nodule in the surgical margin of a wedge resection for aah in my lll. I also had a lobectomy at the same time lul.

The nodule showed up about one year ago and grew slightly in April scan. Pet showed nothing. The procedure takes a biopsy through the bronchoscopy and if pathology show malignancy they do a pulsed electrical ablation at the same time. It's been in trials and has shown excellent results.

I'm nervous be i only have 1/3 of my left lung and I'm worried about a pneumothorax. Please let me know if you've had this procedure and how it went.

I had the Aliya on one nodule (there are several) at the same time as the biopsy, April 23, 2026. I'm 78 and they didn't want to put me under twice. The biopsy was inconclusive, atypical cells, possibly cancer. There had been an increase in size from November to March, from .9 cm to 1.8 cm. I had a CT scan on 5/15. There was some reduction in size, maybe 30%, but it was too early to say. The neighboring nodule, untreated, also had a similar reduction. CT was supposed to be 3 months later, but mis-communication between hospital where I get my imaging done, and pulmonologist. I travel to San Francisco for treatment, 130 miles away. The plan is to have another CT scan done in 3 months. I have experienced some shortness of breath, but am also on Immunotheraoy, Nivolmab, which I have been on for 3 years. I'm also 6 months post surgery for pancreatic cancer.
Bottom line, right now, I feel ok. I'm concerned about the breathing issue, but the procedure was done as an outpatient and was easy on me. Still checking and following up on shortness of breath issue. I hope that your procedure goes well. I will post what I learn if anything changess and post 3 mo. CT.

Oops, the CT scan was 6/15, not 5/15.
