My 6 year old has a failed nissen fundoplication. She suffers from severe GERD that has caused damage to her lower esophagus and stomach. Her GI said no one will redo her nissen due to high failure rates. Her GI is wanting to put her on PPI's for 3-6 months then take her off and go back to zantac until symptoms return. This sounds like a horrible answer. Would she be a candidate for the LINX system? Or are there other options we aren't pursuing?
Thanks in advance
@acid2come
I have not lived in OK since the late 70s when we were at Ft Sill at Lawton. I remember many small towns. We had to go down into Texas to get eyeglasses. Things have changed a lot.. our last visit there was in 2008. Lawton was much bigger.
What test have you had done? What type of drs have you seen? Is it brown acid? or is it in the form of clear or white mucus? Both will burn, but the brown is worse. Does a liquid antacid.. like Mylanta or Maalox help?
I have been so busy with my mama that I have not looked at Connect very much so am behind on a lot. Still things going on with mama and I will be in and out. I will try and look through your post and see if I have some ideas other than what is posted.
Hi, hope you had a great Christmas.. sorry it has took me so long to get back with you.. But sometimes I get discouraged and stop looking and researching..BUT WE CANT GIVE UP..I’ve had a EGD, showed spasms in larynx and esophagus..a 24 hr ph test was clear.. Chest X-ray good, lung function test showed restricted air way..so they started me on asthma medicine but that made it worse..
I seen new Gastroenterologist he didn’t like the way the test have been done..he’s going to do a EGD with biopsy from throat to stomach.. and esophagus manometry, 24 hr ph impedance test..where they run the monitor up nose and down throat into stomach.. he said that is a better test than the one they put the capsule n the esophagus and you have the monitor you wear around your neck..So I have those test January 6-8...new doctor said there are different kinds of acid..stomach acid, reflux acid or bile.. he wants to know which one it is and if my fundoliption is to tight or maybe moved.. keeping food from going down..
I’m always open for suggestions any information I can get. 😊

I’m so sorry this started at such a young age..I’m sure you’ve had test and had biopsy to see what kind of acid it is? I was taking acid blocking medication but it wasn’t doing any good..new doc running test to see if it’s GERD or if it’s bile acid..he said different medicine for different acid.. I go 6-7 January for my test...I hope he figures it out for me and I can pass information along to others..
I lived in OK 20 years.. At least go to Oklahoma City, OU hospital.. if you can travel go further... Houston or go to Mayo in Rochester, Minnesota. Do not lie prone when you sleep. Prop yourself up at least with a wedge pillow and a few others to a 45 degree angle for your upper body.. raising the bed Head is the best so the whole mattress tilts. Don't lay down for at least 2 hours after eating. Don't eat for 3 hours before going to sleep... Don't eat fast...chew your food really well. I had a Nissen almost 5 years ago ..it was a disaster . Mayo clinic MN diagnosed my condition as post operative Gastropaneisis.. 1 in 6 Nissens fail...
My GI and Surgeon in Central IA could not figure what was wrong with the Nissen they had done... Mayo MN figured it out in the morning of my appointment... Damaged nerves in the stomach..
Non of those tests you describe seem like the 3 I had at Mayo.. the standard breakfast meal timing test (w/radioactive tracing) I had seemed the best indicator of how long it took the stomach to empty... When regular stomach nerves have been damaged, you have to depend more on gravity emptying and chewing food into a pulp before it gets to the stomach...

Sounds like you're on the right track with the new doctor.

The test you describe is for delayed gastric emptying and not reflux.
That's the vagus nerve. I had the same thing. It screws up your digestive system for life after they hit that.
I'm glad. Finding someone you like and trust is half the battle.
