So you had a motility study done? This is where they pass a special catheter through the nose into the esophagus. The RN then has the patient take sips of saline and swallow. Mine showed my esophagus was actually spasming trying to push whatever is swallowed thru the herniation.

As you sent me a private message about meeting others who have had the Linx procedure, I thought I would post your question here in this discussion group where many have discussed Linx. I would like you to meet @sylvias and @drrobertsmsmft. I hope they (and others) will share with you.

I had Fundoplication surgery 10yrs ago.but ive started hvin acid reflux again.with a chronic cough, lump in throat, asthma, hoarse voice, sore throat, I’ve never had asthma and the medicine for asthma makes the GERD worse.. I can’t sleep for the burning in my chest and coughing. Then it goes down in lungs and it gets very hard to breathe out. I’ve been to doctors,ERS,pulmonologist,ENT,breathing function test..BUT THEY LOOK AT ME LIKE THERES NOTHING WRONG.. I’ve been this way fir the last 4months. With very little air.very had to breathe.. So can I have the Fundoplication redone? Or the Linx done with the Fundoplication?

I easily keep my occasional acid reflux with aloa vera gel that I keep in the fridge. I teaspoon when needed..natural..no side effects never heard/read anything bad about that product!

I had Fundoplication surgery..can I hv Linx surgery now? The acid coming up is so bad.
I’m not sure what I need to do but I can’t get help because the doctors say. It can’t b acid because I’ve had Fundoplication. But I can’t even talk or drink something cold.. I start coughing then my air shuts off...but I’m coughing up food or anything I drink..
What do you recommend that I do? Or how do I go about talking to new doctor about this?

I was told you can have Linx done as long as you fit the criteria. I too had a failed fundoplication procedure. After 6 months I had acid coming back up and a year later I was again having acid getting back into my lungs. The doctor that did the fundoplication surgery didn't give me much hope. I did a lot of research and looked on the Linx website and luckily found a doctor that has 35 years experience with digestive surgery. I wasn't a candidate for the Linx but he gave me the option of having a partial gastrectomy (80% removal) with a roux en y. That was in March and I'm reflux free. I feel better than I have in a long time. It took a big change in diet but it's been worth it. I wish you the best. Do your research on the doctors. You'll find the right one

The doctor that did the procedure didn't give me other options. I did a lot of research starting with the Linx website and checked the background of doctors that did that. I was lucky I found a doctor that has 35 years experience in digestive surgery. I had more tests and was not a candidate for Linx but gave me the option of a partial gastrectomy (80% removal) with a roux en y. That was done in March and I'm acid reflux free. It's a big diet change but I feel much better. Do your research and don't take nothing is wrong as an answer. You'll find the right doctor. Hope all goes well

How do you go about talking to a new doctor? First you need to find one that is with a top notch Gastroenterology medical facility. Have you tried to make an appointment with the Mayo Clinic? Next best would be to do research online and find another gastroenterology with a high ranking. Try US News & World Report’s Best Doctors and Hospitals.

I did a lot of research online, Google searches, and read a lot of articles and looked up the doctors mentioned. To talk to the doctor you have to make an appointment with them. I visited 3 doctors before I decided who was the best fit for me, the one I felt most comfortable with, and the one that I felt had the most knowledge concerning my case. In my case I gathered all the test results I had done pre and post fundoplication surgery and sent to the doctors ahead of time so they could review before I got there. I tried to go to the Mayo Clinic but my insurance didn't cover out of network. I was fortunate to find a doctor close by, about an hour away, that had extensive experience with digestive surgery.
