MILD procedure scheduled. Comments, please?
My mom is 87 years old, and she has had Spinal Stenosis for years. Her MRI shows severe stenosis on L2-L3, L3-L4, and L4-L5. It is now that she has become unable to walk without a cane and walker. She's much slower now and much more pain. Her doctor recommended the minimal invasive lumbar decompression (MILD) procedure to clear out the stenosis area. I'd like to know if anyone has had this procedure done. If so, how was recovery after procedure (quick and easy? long and hard?), and did the procedure work for you....a little, a lot? Please post your comments....she is presently scheduled for the procedure on May 23, 2024.

1 Reaction@mrjayb - sorry to hear that the MILD procedure did not work for you. In case you've not yet seen it, I also wanted to point out a Mayo Clinic Connect discussion related to the Aurora zip spacer you mentioned:
- Familiar with the Aurora Zip Spacer? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/aurora-zip-spacer/
@mrjayb Just watched an informative video about treatments for spinal stenosis. Looks like the ZIP is the only minimally invasive procedure which can target all 3 areas of stenosis (central, foraminal and lateral recess) in order to avoid a traditional fusion or destabilizing the spine with only decompression lami. Didn’t say if it can be done at multiple levels during the same procedure.
@gioanna
I'm seeing Dr. in August, and from what I read, it can be done in multiple levels during the same procedure. The Doctor I'm seeing is Steven Fawloski, a neurosurgeon in Lancaster, Pa.

4 ReactionsI had MILD 4 weeks ago, stenosis L3-4 first 2 weeks my back was sore , I never had sciatica only low back pain. Now my left front left leg around my hip upper high I now have nerve pain when I bend . My doctor says that nerve is above L2-3 he didn’t go near that nerve. my lower back pain is the same like before. Doctor says SI JOINT injections next for lower back pain. Before MILD And I also did a nuclear X-ray were they put radiation in an iv to see what lights up . That shows L3-4 and L5-S1 facet bright lights up and SI JOINT LIGHTS UP TOO. I have 3 problems. I was hoping MILD Would stop the back pain. I started PT. I have to do the exercises. I’m curious 6 months from now. I’m 67 years. I also am Fused at L4-5. I’m staying positive butt it’s very difficult.
I spoke to soon , it’s too early to say it didn’t work. Today no pain. Went back to sleeping in my recliner and it’s helped a lot. It keeps me on my back and I don’t move. I’ll repost down the line. Must stay positive. Don’t rush the healing.
