Scoliosis and it's affect on my life

I have been told I have scoliosis however the effects it has on my life aren't what others appear to be suffering. I don't have pain, just difficulty walking any distance and very stiff muscles in my lower back which make it hard for me to breath. This is not an every day thing it seems to cycle monthly. I have a good week, a not so good week, a difficult week and a week that is a real struggle. Can the cycle be a hormonal problem.

I do not know about the hormonal problem but I, too, have scoliosis that is preventing me from walking any real distance without some support, like a grocery cart. There is a specialized physical therapy called the Schroth Method, developed in Germany by a woman who had scoliosis. It took a while to get to the US. Search the web for Schroth Method physical therapy in your area. It's is a specialized training specifically for scoliosis. There is only one person in my area who is trained in it. Hopefully you will have better luck. I need to go much more often than the one person here can accommodate but it has been beneficial. And they may be able to better answer your questions.

I am struggling with scoliosis too. I have found only 1 in my area that with take insurance. The other 2 are pay only. Very expensive. So I continue to wait for an opening.

I have used a Schroth therapist for about a year. She actually got my "dropped" shoulder back where it belongs! I have exercises to do which include breathing exercises. Yes, it is expensive yet if you can afford one session I recommend you do so. I am also going to try physical therapy to release the tight his muscles and strengthen the loose hip muscles.

Hi, I also have severe scoliosis diagnosed at 14. I am now in my 70,s. I had a very active life until after menopause and then everything progressed. The newer studies are showing a correlation between lowered estrogen and progression of scoliosis. So many people are worse after menopause that researchers began looking into it. I am not sure about the cycling of hormones though.
