Mouth sores after radiation: Nothing seems to help cracked tongue

Posted by where4 @where4, May 15 3:02pm

Has anyone had to deal with mouth sores after having radiation. Spouse had total thyroidectomy and neck dissection. Followed up with a dose of liquid radiation because her one vocal cord was paralized, which complicates swallowing pills. This was performed 18 months ago and her tongue is still cracked and sore. Several mouth sores on the gum as well. Doctors and dentists have prescribed many things but it does not cure the sores, only tries to reduce the pain. Fluocinonide, Fluconazole, Lidocain, Odansetron, and magic mouthwash were prescribed. Showing a picture of her cracked and white tongue.
Thanks to all.

I have terrible dry mouth from meds to where my teeth now are implants-just destroyed them. If found this gel and am a wild eyed believer…it literally soaks into your mouth and is such a relief! I think someone ought to let Mayo Clinic about this gel to have available for patients…in my humble opinion
