New to C Diff: Will This Be the New Normal for Life??
Newly diagnosed w C Diff due to “preventative antibiotics “ for a dermatology procedure 5 wks ago. I never heard of this infection before now but learned a lot from research. Med professionals saw no urgency in my earlier symptoms of high fever/diarrhea/fatigue until after 13 days, I insisted on fecal testing. Vanco worked but gave me a horrific debilitating stiff neck and shoulders after six days. I weigh hardly anything, and believe the powerful drug was brutal on my body, as neck pain went away soon after finishing Vanco. I'm wondering if I now have a reoccurrence after 1-wk off Vanco, or did I eat soft veggies too soon, as I worked to encourage positive gut health. Back on the BRAT diet but that’s not yet working. And when does nutrition take a hit, and we get another illness? Wondering too, if I'm over-hydrating which continues the watery diarrhea? I'll see a dietitian and GI specialist soon, but med staff seem clueless up til now. I miss real food and feeling like myself, which was athletic and very healthy as a retiree. Is this now the new normal, constant hyper-thinking on this? Needing to always stay near home? No more fun socializing midst great food? Is it like C Diff is “in remission “ until someday it shows up? This is all so unbelievable, maddening, sad, and honestly scary. Feel like I'm walking on eggshells yet can’t eat the yummy omelet. Any hope and guidance appreciated. Thanks, Everyone.

According to a world renowned infectious disease doctor Vancomycim does not cure C-Diff. It slowes it down and gives a false negative. Please look into VOWST or DIFICID.
And next time you are given antibiotics please take probiotics with a cool to cold glass of water in the morning and at bed time. Do not eat or drink anything warm or hot for at least two hours before or after.
It pains me to see so many people getting C-Diff when it could simply be avoided taking the right action. Please look into the Peggy Lillis Foundation for support.
Antibiotics kill off all the bugs in the body both good and bad. This leaves no good bugs to police the bad bugs. If we put the good bacteria in while we are taking antibiotics we should be ok.
I pray you find this helpful.

1 ReactionI was diagnosed 2 years ago. My doctor prescribed Dificid, but between the insurance company and the pharmacist - I was not allowed the opportunity to take it. I ended up on Vanco for 2 weeks (even though I said I would pay out of pocket for the Dificid). I was later told by another doctor that Vanco also destroys microbiome, in addition to CDiff, and that Dificid spares the microbiome and targets CDiff.
Two years later and I am now hearing from more than one source that Vanco does not kill CDiff. Can you please share the name of the infectious disease doctor you mentioned? Although I have recovered, I want to keep up to date on this subject so I am not caught off guard if there is a next time. I will not be bamboozled by insurance/pharmacy again.
Thank you.
@mrsjohn101 i start vowst therapy after july 6. Hoping i can eat normal again some day:(
I'm praying for you. My mom went through this. But Vowst was not created yet. I'm writing a book a (memoir) about the horrible things she suffered and how they could have been avoided.

1 ReactionI meant the book will speak to many people. There is not a lot of guidance.
@chrismkc Thank you. I pray you are right. It's so hard getting the words out on paper. Mom passed in 2013. After my mom passed I discovered that a person could avoid C-Diff by taking Probiotics at the same time they take Antibiotic. I used my friends and neighbor as case studies. I knew what the outcome would be without something to change the course of action. It was thanks to a world renowned infectious disease doctor in my area, who taught me in lay men's terms about the good bugs and bad bugs that made me wonder, if we put the good bugs back in while killing off all the bugs could we avoid C-Diff? I'm happy to report that my studies paid off. A person can get C- Diff from certain brands both IV and pill form antibiotics. My friends and neighbors came out of the Hospital and SNF happy and healthy. They never even knew the fate that awaited them without interference. I was amazed at how clueless they were. But at the same time so happy they were willing to follow directions. C-Diff can be a deadly debilataing disease if not delt with ASAP. It nearly killed my mom twice. I watched many women in the SNF die because the medical staff were clueless. How could that be with so many people dying for C-Diff?
What especially angred me, is about pre-Covid, I discovered that France has been giving probiotics to patients receiving antibiotic treatment for the last 30 years. I did not think of this first. France even classified probiotics as a drug so they could prescribe it to patients. Where has the American medical industry been hiding its head?
To find other's going through what you are going through you can look to Peggy Lillis Foundation. John Lillis and I are well acquainted. Ps. The Book is titled HOSPITALS: DONT GO ALONE. Every patient needs an advocate.
I continue to keep you and all who suffer in my prayers fr a speedy and successful recovery.

1 Reaction@mrsjohn101 thank you! I’ll keep you posted. I’m glad they have these other treatments. I can’t imagine what I’d do without feeling there’s hope even if a few weeks before I start the treatment.😩. It’s wild how many people suffer from it for so long!
