Constant upper abdominal pain
I have Short Bowel Syndrome. I am having constant abdominal pain above my belly button and to the left of my abdomen and I also have constant nausea. Doctors don't know how to treat my constant abdominal pain and constant nausea. Abdominal pain doesn't change with what I eat, doesn't change with bowel movements and doesn't change with moving around/walking etc. Resting doesn't change my constant abdominal pain and constant nausea.

Does " high" mean you can stand a lot of pain ?....or you can't ???
If Tylenol works for you, that is great. I have found good / helpful info
from pharmacists . Pain I can understand, usually, but this constant pain
is dreadful & debilitating.

1 ReactionI have a high pain tolerance, so I am able to cope with pain but it's not always a good thing to do. Once I had a little more pain but not that bad but I knew something wasn't right, so I went to the hospital and had a small bowel obstruction and had to have a couple surgeries to fix the small bowel obstruction.

1 Reaction@kayraymat I have lived with fibromyalgia and other immune conditions for years so I guess I am so used to pain 24/7 it has to be above the equivalent of 10 or more for someone else, for me to feel feel what normally could be felt at 6 or 7 for others.
Right now I have arthritis pain in both my knees - more on the right than left. X-ray shows “mild to moderate arthritis in right knee, mild arthritis in left knee” but it feels anything but “mild to moderate”! The pain I am experiencing is a 10 so I can’t help wondering if I have a torn meniscus. I can’t understand the report stating “mild to moderate” because I can barely walk - but … I still can function because for me that still is tolerable. Someone else would have to take heavy duty painkillers for this kind of pain. My doctor suggested pregablin or gabapentin but I told her I would stick with just Extra Strength Tylenol or Tylenol for Arthritis, just to take the edge off but I don’t want to take anything stronger because even codeine makes me dizzy and nauseous. I don’t want to have to take something else to mask the side effects of the painkiller because I can see it turning into a spinning wheel of one medication leading to another, then another, each to fight the side effects of a previous one since I seem to be sensitive to drugs! I’d rather put up with the pain as long as I still can tolerate it. I only hope that the pain in my let is from arthritis because I have had arthritis in other parts of my body too for many years and have never felt this kind of pain.
Having said this, however, I haven’t experienced the pain of a knee or hip replacement so … I don’t know if I will be able to stand up (pun unintended) to that! 🤷🏼♀️
@tjanet true, I don’t think Tylenol would help much in your case. I too have abdominal pain but in my upper right and an Abdominal MRI shows nothing amiss. Although Tylenol helps take the edge off my arthritic pain it really does nothing for the abdominal pain.
@tjanet are any of your family members who are telling you you don’t need to see a specialist, in the medical profession? If not, they don’t know any more than you do.
have you had SIBO tests? You say eating doesn't change it but it can take a week for your intestine to settle down. I take Xifaxin periodically for the SIBO it really helps. I went on the FODMAP and it works beautifully. Had to make some adjustments with no onion/garlic/non-soluble fibers, lactose and gluten)
Did you check your medications????????? People forget about those! Mine had lactose, and either I have to take a Lactaid or get a change on the meds.
Sounds like small meals are in order until you figure it out. Maybe surgery?
you said: You aren't sensitive to foods, yet you contradicted, saying you have to eat a low fiber diet. So I don't understand. It sounds like you might be getting trapped gas pains which cause constant pain. (I went to the hospital twice for this!) of course, they found nothing because it was only trapped gas. Took 15 years for the true problem to be resolved. My anti gas, anti spasmatic contained lactose and so it CAUSED the pain, too!
I have Short Bowel Syndrome too, and I’ve experienced persistent upper abdominal pain and nausea that didn’t seem related to eating, bowel movements, activity, or rest. Unfortunately, these symptoms can be difficult to manage, and in my case, working closely with a gastroenterologist and continuing to investigate possible causes was the best approach, even when initial treatments didn’t provide relief.

My GI doctor doesn't know what to do about my constant abdominal pain and constant nausea. So I continue to suffer every day/night. My GI doctor isn't treating my GI symptoms right now.
@loriesco
Foods don't change how I feel. What I eat doesn't make my symptoms worse or better. I am on a low fiber diet because of my Short Bowel Syndrome. Doctors have said that I don't have SIBO.
I don't have bloating, gas,indigestion, acid reflux or heartburn. I was on a clear liquid diet for 3 weeks and still had constant abdominal pain. Was eating small easy digestible foods and I still have constant abdominal pain. I don't eat much when I eat and I still have constant abdominal pain. Only medication I am on is my seizure medicine and that isn't the problem.
@rashida
No none of my family members are in the medical field. I know more medical stuff than my family members.
