How do you handle your appearance asyou age?

Posted by Lee @galere, Jun 3 5:08am

I don't want to sound vain, or anything like that, but it looks like I aged overnight. I need dental work , that doesn't help much, but I'm almost so self conscious I don't want to go out anywhere.
I've always taken care of my skin, with creams etc. But the wrinkles just seemed to of came on.
I know this probably sounds like I care to much for looks but I feel ashamed of myself

My filter doesn't work as well as it used to, but as the line in the movie goes..."my mama didn't raise no stupid children". As long as you can state your opinion in a non critical manner, it tends to be acceptable. It also doesn't hurt to be out of physical reach...lol

@kjoed53 I like the way you stepped around that one! 🤣

I'm a 73 year old man and hopefully I don't offend anyone, but I think that shorter hair looks better on most senior ladies. I have seen some women who can pull off the long hair look, but I have also seen many others who look 10 years older because of their long hair. This is not a criticism, just an opinion for anyone looking for one.

@kjoed53 while that’s often true, there are always exceptions, and just personal choice…very individual.

It also includes people who want to stay in their comfort zone. Occasionally I buy my wife clothes in a color or design that is out of her so called comfort zone of what she usually wears. Whenever she does decide to wear those she gets many compliments. She occasionally buys clothes for me that are out of my comfort zone and I get the same results. Sometimes it's good when someone suggests something that takes us out of our comfort zone. Not everyone is so open to change and it's always their choice.

Of course, there's an "old adage" for everything, including our appearance: "A woman is as old as she looks. A man isn't old until he stops looking."

Keep a normal weight, exercise, dress well but not "old" (you'll never see me schlepping around a store in sweatpants or with a corncob pipe), NEVER tell younger people things were better for us or their music sucks or anything like that. Try to be like Betty White. Everyone LOVED her. Objectively she looked old but she didn't seem it.
