Yes, it took much longer to be diagnosed It began at age 15. I'm 65years old now. As soon as X-rays showed bone damage I was believed and given high doses of Sulphasalazine to protect my hands.

1 ReactionYes, I was just recently diagnosed with it. At first I was told I had PMR until I finally got to a Rheumatologist and had further testing done. I just started on Methotrexate this week. Hoping for some relief soon.

1 ReactionI have negative ESR and CRP, but positive ANA and elevated CCP. X-rays showed inflammation and slight erosion in my finger joints and osteoarthritis everywhere else. My rheumatologist said CCP was pretty definitive for RA.

2 ReactionsI have a negative rheumatoid factor. And I am on drugs that moderate inflammation enough that I rarely have elevated ESR and CCP, unless flaring. I no longer remember what my ANA was, since it's been 30 years. It did take at least 15 years to land on a diagnosis of Sero-negative RA, after carrying diagnoses for ankylosing spondylitis and undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy. And, when I have bad back pain, these previous diagnoses are revisited. Getting to a firm diagnosis has been really difficult, and got worse when I developed an aggressive erosive osteoarthritis (5 years to diagnosis on this one). Yeah. None of this was easy. I hope science progresses so that we all get to diagnose earlier and more effectively, with better personalized treatment. Until then, we push through. Even with all this uncertainty, we have so many more treatment options than our predecessors. We remain grateful. Most days, that us.
