Lumbar nerve ablation
Stanford pain management suggested Neurostimulator device implant and I’m not ready for that. My new doctors that did their residencies at Mayo in Rochester gave me an EMG and are going to be giving me two tests to see if a nerve ablation will resolve the pain from my lumbar down.
Has anyone else had success?

@joycelen At one point, I was considering the nerve ablation, but then my pain in my neck and my lumbar seemed to lessen, so I have put it off for now. I have talked to some people who have had great success from it.... and a few who said it didn't change much. Each of us reacts differently, I suppose. I'm not sure about sedation, but I'm sure you will be well taken care of when you have your ablation. And I am also sure that the doctors KNOW that probably most of their patients are very nervous about the procedure, especially the first time. If the doctor does not use light sedation, perhaps they could give you something like valium or xanax to take beforehand just to help calm your anxiety during the procedure. I wish you all the best. 1 ReactionP.S. I had it done without sedation. I would NOT recommend that. I will have sedation the next time I have it done if my surgery does not get scheduled before that!

1 ReactionI had nerve ablation to lower back 5 weeks ago. After a week the pain got worse and a few days ago felt a little better. Told me it can take up to 8 weeks for it to work. 🤔

I have had ablation. I don't know for sure yet, may be having spinal stimulation. Any info would be helpful.

What have your symptoms been like lately? Did the ablation help with them at all?
I just had lumbar ablation June 2 on both right and left sides. It worked for me. Reduced the pain by 80%. Another huge help was buying a very good medium firm mattress. My orthopedic spine doctor, second opinion suggested that and it was also a big help. The ablation was a little painful I have to admit but worth it for me. I’m back to most everything I want to do. I’m 73 and garden, bike, walk and am very active and feel like I can resume most all of it!!

I had 2 nerve ablation on my l4 l5 spine. They help enormously to keep you moving however the nerves do come back slowly around 6 months to a year.
So you will need to repeat if the pain returns. I had no pain meds except what they gave the day of to relax on the procedure. I walked out fine and was recovered a week later to go back to walking.
