There is no normal. I was completely continent when they pulled out the catheter after my prostatectomy. Only 10% of people have that happen to them. Majority of people wait months if not a year before they can get complete Continents. My cancer came back and I had radiation, Six years after that, I started having incontinence problems, They just got worse overtime even using a physical therapist.

How do you work with a physical therapist that specializes in incontinence. Have you been doing Keagle’s on a regular basis?. Doing these things can help get you continent. Unfortunately, not everybody is able to do it.

I just had a device installed to make me continent. That can be done if in the long run, you cannot resolve the incontinence problem.

@abenitez - Hi. It’ll be five months next week that I had my catheter out. Up until about the two month point, I had absolutely no bladder control. None. Nada. Zip.

At around two months, with no warning, I was able to walk to the bathroom to go, but only overnight. Daytime, still no control.

Over the next month, I slowly began to gain some control. I stopped flooding my pants upon standing. I could make it to the bathroom, but if I was standing doing something for any amount of time, I’d have a slow, steady leak going.

Now, coming up on five months, I can say that I’m completely dry overnight, no need to wear any protective underwear, and during the day, I’m pretty much down to just stress incontinence, such as when I cough, sneeze, or pass gas.

Everyone’s body is different, though. It depends on your surgery and your surgeon, how healthy you were to begin with, how well you heal, and doing kegels and working with a physical therapist can certainly help. I think exercise helps as well, and I walk two brisk miles a day.

Good luck!
