Very nervous the day before surgery
Good morning well tomorrow I’ll be getting surgery tympanoplasty with full thickness graft. I am absolutely petrified. I know this is a good thing. I think the anesthesia is the scariest part. I’m not sure how the people got through this.

@boecam
Thank you. I think the most worrisome part of all of it is
I just want to be alive! I want to wake up …thats all and it
Is always worrisome to be put. Under when you’re over 50. I had a superb team of professionals and they took the utmost care of me front beginning to end. Now its time to heal. Take care of yourselfl

1 Reaction@lacy2 Yes a brave face is what we put on for sure. I did this at home with my family and grown kids. No worries I will be fine it’s a quick surgery and i will be home. But inside I was like omg i just need to wake up from surgery and go home I want to be there for the weddings and grandkids. Really This is what people think. It’s scary having someone else be in control of your body. I made it through and I hope this will also help someone going through this.
Take care all.

1 ReactionAnesthesia is yur friend.
My problem was BP like 175/77/45. Anesthesiologist didn’t want any part of me. Yet made it through all major surgeries. They call it White coat syndrome.

1 Reaction......wish I could recall where i read it, but it explained we "should" or rather we are built to be afrais of some things; e.g. seeing a large snake and be worried/scared/afrais of it as it could bite us and kill us! OK over-simplifying but some people don't seem to be afraid of anything. My Mother scores of years ago said I was afraid of everything .. yet my brother afraid of everything but didnt stop him. I think that is the difference, being afraid/anxious and causing a lot of stress; and eing afraid/anxious and coping with it. I am the former!
@susanlwilson thank you for your post. I am 3 weeks out of tympanoplasty with graft surgery and an ear tube placement. I am having a difficult time with recovery as I developed an ear infection in my surgery ear and am dealing with unbearable fullness, very loud tinnitus and on and off pain. I am really hoping to feel better after my infection resolves. Has your ear fullness gone away yet and have you had your packing removed? Although I really needed to have the surgery, I’m not sure I would’ve gone through with it. Had I known what this recovery would be like! Hope you are doing well!!
@dlc21 Good morning. I am 5 weeks into recovery this Thursday.
Things seem to be healing well, no infection at all, very careful with using Vaseline and cotton balls for shower and not getting ear wet.
My first visit was removing packing outside part of ear, 2 weeks later the inside packing came out. I am definitely dealing with feeling there is still a lot of packing in my ear, but there isn’t .
This is the most annoying part. Also being around a lot of people and music is overwhelming right now. I am constantly saying what? What? What? Because my hearing is not back to where it was before the surgery. I hope your infection clears and things work out better for you! Keep updating. Take care and have a peaceful day.
