reclast infusions

Posted by dory215 @dory215, Apr 23 7:18pm

I've been diagnosed wuth osteoporosis recently and Doctor wants to put me on reclast infusion.

When reading side effects, im not sure I want this treatment.

I have Rheumatoid arthritis which caused joint pains and fatigue. Both these side effects are also associated with reclast. In addition, I'm just recuperating from covid and again one of side effects is flu like effects.!

I'm terrified! Do I really need to get this infusion?

@raelenewilma I don't know what doctors you've seen, but if you can find someone who specializes in osteoporosis, that is best. That's not easy, though. Not every endocrinologist is good at it.

If you are near a city, you can try looking at medical centers/hospitals where their Web page has a section dedicated to bone disease. And if you see the names of doctors, Google them and look at their reviews. It's a pain to do, I know.

Just got my dexa scores. Thought it might be interesting to some of you.
I’m 71, did 3 annual infusions of Reclast, after trying 7 weeks of oral alendronate that bothered my stomach too much. I’m also on tamoxifen 5 mg for 3.5 years. With new guidelines expected from the San Antonio Breast symposium this fall, I may be stopping tamoxifen. Recommendations may change from 5 year to 3 years for early er+ bc. It was suggested I might want to then take raloxifene, not sure what happens with Reclast. See endo in July.
I am now osteopenia only, goodbye osteoporosis!

You can see my numbers from 2022 to present on attached photo. Numbers have jumped around a bit, up/down, but the oncology rheumatologist I see is happy that they are relatively stable.
Look at the column that starts with -2.2 then go straight down the list. The last number on the row is the % of gain or lost, the * means it is significant.

I wouldn’t. I had the infusion and within three weeks, developed swelling, redness, severe pain and stiffness in my hands, extreme fatigue, anemia.
A year and a half later I still have anemia and my rheumatologist put me on methotrexate for inflammatory arthritis. Wish I could take it back.

Hello, I want to share my story, I had the reclast infusion on December 4of last year, I had som much pain for two months. Then finally went away in my shoulders but stayed in my hip, it has been two months and the pain in my shoulders are back , it is the worse pain I have ever felt in my entire life. The only watt I can’t explain it is that it feels like labor pains in my shoulders. It comes in waves and stays for anywhere from a half hour to a hour hour. I contact the FDA and is writing a report on the reclast. I can’t take the pain anymore. All I do in cry and moan, when the pain comes. I am working on stopping this drug and letting people know what happened to me. REClast has ruined my life. Raelene

@raelenewilma I am sorry this is happening to you. I am wondering if you had any other endocrine issues prior to reclast infusion and if so if your endocrinologist discussed possible cross interactions?
