Anyone had radiation of the lung? What were the side effects? Results?
I am an 80 yo female just diagnosed, for the 2nd time, with lung cancer. My first was in the RUL surgically removed in 2016. This one is in the LUL and is still very small, barely 1cm.
This time my Oncologist wants to use radiation therapy. Has anyone had this tx and what were the side affects? Any and all answers will be greatly appreciated.

@vic83 As far as I know only during the pneumonitis. Extremely short of breath but seemed to fully restore after. I had a left lobectomy so I don’t know if left side was affected but I didn’t have any lasting diminished breathing.
Sorry for your difficulties.
Yes I had 5 SBRT (radiation) treatments in March 2026 for a lower right lung cancerous nodule. It appears to be stage 1 and I could not have surgery because of COPD and lung scar tissue/damage from a prior lung cancer that I had 31 years ago. The treatments were totally fine, like getting a ct scan...Very little side effects, some fatigue but nothing debilitating. I had to wait 3 months for a follow up scan, which I had this past week and was told the tumor is not viable any longer. So very grateful. I'm 73 and this is my second lung cancer too. I have a follow up scan in October.... Good luck.. It's really not bad at all and thank God they caught it early for you...
i had stage 4 lung cancer with a tumor in my left lung. I take Tagrisso 80 mg every day and was doing very well. The oncologist recommended that I have Proton radiation on the tumor as well as one lymph node. Very few side effect, except for red mark like a sunburn on my back. These 2 areas no longer show as active on my Pet scans and the Tagrisso continues to control other areas. I had the radiation at MD Anderson in Houston.
