Results of DEXA after 1 year Evenity

Posted by deborahla @deborahla, Jan 7 6:16pm

I finished Evenity 12/25 and did a DEXA today. I have not seen the provider.
Results: 1/7/26 Lumbar Spine T-score -2.9 . Prior 11/21/23: -3.8.

1/7/26. Neck Left Femur T-Score -3.5. Prior 11/21/23 -3.8

There was for some reason no report of the right femur. The prior 11/21/23 right femur T-score was -3.5.

Trabecular bone score was not reported 11/21/23 but was reported 1/7/26 and was 1.154 which means degraded microarchitecture. This seems to be a newer element of reporting as I have not seen this on my prior tests.

The density of the left femur increased by 9.1% which is a statistically significant change. (I don't know where the radiologist got this from; it seems incorrect to me. I don't see a 9 % increase in the left femur-it went from -3.8 to -3.5 which is not 9%. I am going to email my provider about it)

So some good results for lumbar spine but not much change on left femur and trabecular shows the worse reading (degraded architecture).
The relative risk fracture is 7 times that of a young healthy adult (compared to 14 times for 11/23 report.

I feel the results are pretty good, not as good as I had hoped but I will discuss with my provider in a few weeks. I did not have any issues at all with Evenity (no side effects) and am overall glad I started treatment. I am not sure what is next: Reclast has been mentioned but I will find out. I plan to continue treatment. I hope to be able to repeat Evenity at some point also.
Any comments?

@yermell: Don’t be discouraged over DEXA scan… my doc says that DEXA results are pre-mature as Evenity may continue to strengthen bones months after last injections.
Hoping for best results for all Evenity patients… me too! Time will tell

Thanks for that thought, my doctor said that too

Prior to Evenity i had dextra that revealed only osteopenia. I now have increased arthritis pain After Evenity My density increased by 10% but my left hip has gone from mild arthriitis painless to severe femoral pain noted with cortisol Edema
I will now have to have a hip replacement as my arthritis has gone wild in my body but mostly in my left hip causing a drop in femoral neck. My activity level now is zero as my left hip grinds and spurs cause severe pain. Awaiting MD further eval next week for hopefully anterior hip replacement. I have been on rest and reduced weight bearing to avoid a fx. until Dr can get more testing. The xray of my left hip blew my mine. My femoral neck has push into acetablum and dropped down. I use to be very active, now just hope to walk again.

Bravo! Those scores are encouraging! You say you had no side effects. (Also encouraging!) Did that happen naturally, or did you do anything to avoid them? Some people talk about taking Tylenol before injection or drinking a lot of water. Let me know if you have any tips for the journey. I start Evenity this month.

@isabella5 the nurse giving my injections in the back of both arms told me to make a fist and tighten that muscle as the injection went it. It did seem to help with the stinging.

I'm not sure if this is addressed to me but the shots were given by a nurse in the doctor's clinic.
