Flying During SBRT Treatment
I will be traveling to MD Anderson from Florida for SBRT treatments. Would love to be able to fly home at least once in between treatments to see my family for a long weekend.
I know everyone is different but interested to know how challenging/dificult it may be given potential urgency issues. The actual flight time is 2.5 hours.

Is this once a week or every other day? If is finished within 12 days may only be 1 weekend. Seats at the back of the plane are usually open. Can always wear Depends.
For me there was absolutely no reason I would not have been able to fly during my 5 SBRT treatments. I got out and walked 18 holes of golf several times those two weeks with no problems.

This experience will be different for each person.
However…… Since you’re getting SBRT (only 5 treatments?), how many “fly home at least once in-between treatments” do you expect to need?
Hopefully, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime event for you. No doubt they’ll understand if you miss one weekend.

Furthermore to @jim18 comment, you also might want to carry a pee bottle in your rental car. Every one is different. I had 5 higher doses and after the third treatment, I carried the pee bottle and glad I did. It only lasted a short time after my treatments were over.
I have not seen anything that restricts travel on a plane during the radiation period but a quick call to your MD Andersen team (or message in the portal) should give you an answer.
I’ve been through surgery, radiation several times, and chemotherapy. I traveled during and to most treatments, including five times to FL and the northeast between my six chemotherapy sessions. I try not to let the disease define me or limit or change my wants or actions. But undoubtedly, everyone is different and you have to feel comfortable with your own situation. You might want to pick a seat close to the restroom when flying to give you greater comfort.
