Ostomy Odor Concerns
I have a one piece enclosed Ostomy Bag but I still seem to get a whiff of an order from the area
I know everything is enclosed but I swear I get an odor
Has anyone else experienced this type of concern.
I’m afraid if I can smell it someone else can.
Thank You

I’ll try motr salads.
Thank you
I can only answer for myself since I live alone alone and the cat refuses to help! When I was first about to get the ostomy 40 something years ago my surgeon had one of his ostomy patients come to visit me.
She might have been 30 which was about my age at the time. She arrived beautifully dressed with her husband in tow. Turns out she was a singer in a band. So obviously she wasn’t afraid in front of people. And her husband obviously was there so he wasn’t afraid of anything about her. She announced not to worry about odor that mostly we noticed it while others didn’t since we often worry so are looking for it. She finished with “nobody has told me I smell like a sack of sh#$**t!” That kind of cut right to the question! 😁

1 ReactionWell I think sometimes it has to do with what u eat. I used to baby oil ir something similar and that seem to help some.
@pidge32 there are lubricant drops that can help. Coloplast, Hollister and other manufacturers make them. If you do a search for "ostomy lubricating deodorant" you'll see quite a few different options. I'd suggest calling some of the manufacturers for samples.
Most of them seem to both deodorize and lubricate, so hopefully you can find something that addresses both of your concerns!
Let us know what you find! I'm sure others have the same issues.
I do and I feel the same way. I am very self conscious about that.
@piki I don't know about anybody else but I use the deodorant they sent and I can still smell.
Dear @skatefreak I think the reason I am not plagued by odour is mainly because of my diet. I'm basically a vegetarian and eat a LOT of salads and very little meat. I do eat salmon regularly however.
@rxjoey
I drink several glasses of water a day. I am eating more salad though
Hi @skatefreak, welcome to Connect! Which brand of deodorant are you using?
There are many different brands - and they are carried by medical suppliers like Edgepark, Byram and retail outlets like Amazon. Most manufactures are happy to send samples.
Another trick shared by the WOCN who hosts our monthly virtual support meeting, @candywocrn . Its a great place to ask questions and get support and @candywocrn is awesome!

1 ReactionI hate even suggesting this because common culprits for stinky gas are cruciferous veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, brussel sprouts. Eggs can also cause it but I don't think near as badly. Combining any of those with a sugary dessert was a recipe for disaster for me. I learned not to eat those things the day before or the day of going out in public.
