Can the diagnosis still be CIDP with a normal spinal tap?

My Mom has been having severe neuropathy in her feet and right hand. She’s had a Nerve Conduction Study. The NCS showed a form of neuropathy. The Neurologist thought it was Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. He wanted to confirm using a spinal tap. The spinal tap came back normal. Can the diagnosis still be CIDP with a normal spinal tap?

I have CIDP. One of the first tests I received yo confirm was a lumbar punch (spinal tap). It have too much protein. That greatly increased the likelihood that I had CIDP. I think it is a good test if CIDP is suspected.
