Evenity follow up

Posted by dianat @dianat, May 22 3:58pm

I am halfway through with my year of Evenity and am looking ahead to what is next. I feel like my best options are either Fosomax or Reclast. Any opinions? (I know that's like opening a can of worms!)
I don't think my insurance will cover Reclast so I may be forced to go to Fosomax.

What is your doctor recommending next I your sequencing?

She recommended one of those two. Fosomax or reclast.

@dianat

What bothers or concerns you about fosomax? Is she going to evaluate the effectiveness of either with either bone turnover markers or one/two year dexa scans?

Nothing really bothers me. It would be more convenient to use reclast and I know people have reactions to both. I will have another scan but I don’t think she cares which one I take. I just was wondering about people’s reactions to them. I have had no reactions to evenity.

I'm going to be getting my 8th injection of Evenity soon. My doctor had me start it because I continued experiencing either breaks or fractures on oral Fosomax or Prolia. We have discussed what I will transition to after Evenity. We have also discussed additional injections of Evenity past the 12th month. Reclast will be my choice afterwards.

Hi @dianat - Ideally, you would get a DXA scan done near the end of your Evenity treatment to determine your next medication. If you are at or near your target T-Score, then likely a bisphosphonate like Fosamax or Reclast. If you are still deep into the osteoporosis range, then likely Prolia or plan for a second anabolic treatment strategy.

Do you know why your insurance won't cover Reclast? Just curious about that. I have Medicare so it was covered. I took Evenity last year and got some good results with it (per Dexa in Jan 2026). I did Reclast 3/26 without problems. If you do it make sure you ask for a longer infusion (I had an hour) with Normal saline with it. I took an antihistamine and Tylenol before the infusion and continued Tylenol 625 every 4 hr for 3 days.

@mouse60
Why are you choosing Reclast?

I took Fosamax for over five years without any side effects. I just did a year of Evenity and I am scheduled for Reclast this Thursday. I would be comfortable doing Fosamax instead but my doctor recommended Reclast.

@deborahla I don’t know why it doesn’t cover Reclast. I will look more into it. I actually didn’t realize infusions took that long!
