Medications for neuropathy
I am a 79 yo male who was diagnosed with neuropathy over two years ago. I have on pregabalin/Lyrica for some 18 months and had to increase dosage as the pain kept getting worse. Now I am on 450 mg daily which is max. My neurologist suggested that I try switching to Cymbalta. I also read that some patients are taking both pregabalin and Cymbalta. I would like to know if anyone has tried switching from Lyrica to Cymbalta and if that helped. Also would like to know if anyone is taking both meds and if that helped.

I’ve taken both drugs at separate times. I highly doubt that it would be advisable to take both together. Cymbalta has strong side effects such as nausea until your body adjusts.

I just started taking Cymbalta to hopefully help with my nerve pain. Dr said it was a good add on med and that she sees good results from patients on it. I’m desperate so I’m willing to try anything.
This is my third day on it and I can attest to the nausea. The first day was horrific with bad headache, very tired, nausea and vomiting so bad. Second day I took it and did nothing all day. I was very tired and felt awful and still had nausea but only threw up once. Today, my third dose, I haven’t taken yet. I’m trying to decide whether I should wait and take before bed.
Either way, I will take it and I’ll suffer through the side effects for a week or two with the hope it will help my pain. Like I said, I’m desperate at this point.
I was put on gabapentin in 2017 for pain and I couldn’t function on it. I was walking around like a zombie at work and could barely hold my head up so I told dr I wasn’t taking it anymore.
I hope you get some relief. I know how bad pain can take over your life.
Good luck.
Hello Steve @plenty55, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @pine26, @lukekee and others. There is another discussion that you might also find helpful to learn what others have shared about the different medications:

I am sorry for what you are going through. Being in pain myself and suffering meds side effects, I can sympathize. Hope you find a solution soon.

The side effects , nausea, we’re still there after 3 weeks but much less. I stopped it’s I couldn’t stand the nausea.
I’ve been taking gabapentin for several years now, 5/600, and the effectiveness is not strong enough. I just tolerate the semi-brain fog. I’m switching to pregabalin (lyrica) next week.
I’ve been diagnosed with poly neuropathy involving feet and lower legs. I must wait for two months to see a neurologist. The symptoms seemed to be worsening quickly. I hope to learn more about this disease from this group
I am taking both and the relief is fading. Worked well for a while though. I have anti mag and several other issues
