Possible Creon side effects: What helped you?

Posted by ajh5285 @ajh5285, Feb 14, 2023

I have a variety of Side Effects that are all listed as possibly related to Creon, the most troublesome being gas which seems to last hours. The NP I saw in the last week or so invited me to make a trial of not taking any Creon to see what happens.

Has anyone else had any experience with this approach?
Would you recommend it?

If I were healthy, I would be more willing to be adventurous...

Hi, my symptoms are better but I'm still taking the Creon. I will ask my provider if I can discontinue it.

I am so happy for you, the whole pancreatic journey is hard enough. Keep up the good work. I am having issues with the Ceron, the more I take I get bowel dumping and end up at er for dehydration, I have tried a natural supplement but made my CA-19 go high so oncology said I have to take the Ceron. So glad you’re gaining weight, I can’t. Thank you for your reply

@crickard70 can I ask what natural substance did you try? Creon gave me pain so I stopped. I’m trying pancreatic enzymes from over counter. Gonna see how that works

I have not tried anything else. The Creon seems to work fine for me .

I started taking Creon after my PC diagnosis. After my Whipple, 10 months later, my Creon dosage was increased. I had gas issues and wanted to go off Creon. I actually quit taking it for 2 weeks but then re-started and reduced dosage after discussion with surgeon and dietician. That seems to be working for me. There is still gas, (not as much) but b.m.s have returned to normal and my diet is pretty broad. There are still some foods that don't agree with me and I limit my fat intake and portion size. I try for 5 smaller meals a day. My weight has been stable. This is my 5th month post Whipple.
